Purchasing a whole new custom desktop the moment I get back on US soil.

Dual 23" LED monitors... and I am looking at this video card.... Newegg.com - EVGA 012-P3-1470-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

My question is should I buy one, or is the system going to need juice for gaming and such... and therefore opt for 2 in SLI?

Any input?

As obligated....

That card is badass enough to run anything you throw at it on high everything. No extra card needed.

I would definitely go with a top-of-the-line video card like that without SLI. I am running SLI in my custom set-up now and wish I wasn't.

Pick up a kickass computer case though. I have this and I love it: Cooler Master RC-840-KKN1-GP ATCS 840 Aluminum ATX Full Tower Case - Black Products Model: RC-840-KKN1-GP [RC-840-KKN1-GP] : Performance-PCs.com, ... sleeve it and they will come

Great thing about ordering a case from Performance PC's is that they'll sleeve everything for you if you order it that way.

i have dual 23's and they are fucking sweet yo.

i dont do any gaming, so I just picked up a card that allowed me dual dvi and dual vga ( whatever the old school shit is ). Its like a mid grade card, nothing low end or high end.

Why not dual 24s? I have two of the Dell 2408's. I like them very much.

Yeah for the price difference, you'll regret not going with 2 24" monitors for about $200 more total.

Yeah, I'd go with an inch more. I got an HP De-branded 24" from Geeks.com and it's very nice. I think I paid about $170 or so for it. It's one of those that you can swivel to be landscape or portrait and has some very nice speakers built in.

The thing about the newer Nvidia's is that they are using a unique core system where they will make an unlimited number of cores based on the task at hand. Really, with the higher-end cards you'd only need to buy two if you found that the memory was being used up. Your processing time should be fairly consistent.

Dell came out with new Ultrasharp U2311H e-IPS 23" LCD's a few days ago, with a 20% off coupon you can get them for $239. I ordered one yesterday. A really good deal since shitty TN panels the same size are around $200. They're not LEDs but supposedly their power consumption is close to it.

wow $350 on just the card.

I am ok with computers. Thinking of doing a custom build.

My budget will most likely be $600-$1k - I already have 2 28" Hanns G monitors. Also have 3rd I can't hook up right now.

Anyway. DAMN $350 for a Video Card. You better be getting into some intense ass gaming for that price.

Don't forget to do a comparison with ATI HD5xxx cards. (5770 - 5870). In my experience ati is a lot more bang for the buck than nvidia is. And don't go for SLI, you'd better keep the money you save on SLI and upgrade your videocard to a newer one later on.

My experience with ATI cards made me never want to buy another one... and I never have. (although I have been looking at them because nVidia has no DX11 + HDMI output).

LOL, gaming... I really only use the computer 5% of the time for games, mostly to fucking shove a rifle down some noobs throat when I am pissed off.... or when I am drunk trying to knife a buddy. I just really like a computer that can take down anything I can throw at it. This will do it for the next 4-5 years. :)

And I don't spend much money on myself,... I will consider it my early birthday present!

If you don't use it for gaming, video encoding or brute forcing stuff than go for a cheaper card (with a silent cooler) and spend the extra money on the CPU and RAM. There's no point in an expensive video card if you're not gonna use it.
