I used to think that affiliate marketing is a smart and easy way to earn money online.
However in reality, as an internet marketer I cannot leverage my profits AT ALL.

Sometimes when I read Techcrunch, it seems to me that there is a whole different scene of young hipsters who just come up with some app or web2.0 service. They choose a hipster web 2.0 name without vocals and ending in "r" and sometimes receive millions in funding to get their bullshit started.
I'm not saying that what they are doing is any good, however from a business perspective it seems like it is because they are leveraging the shit out of it.

As an internet marketer I have to make real profits and earn every cent that goes into my pocket, while they just sit there making losses and writing business plans.

I think in the current economy with all that uncertainty it might even be a bad idea to focus on acquiring plain currency. Because you are left behind with nothing but this currency once your business fails.

It has nothing to do with "Internet" or "Marketing", SV is a Wall Street machine. Just so happens it's pretty cheap to build one Internet company after the other. Until such a time when there's more lucrative opportunities in other markets, that's what they'll continue to do.

But it's funny to see all the peasants on discussion forums think what they do is like some kind of black magic. That's the illusion they're trying to perpetuate, obviously it's working.

When you build a product like that it requires an investment and good, solid research into the niche market you are going after. Plus development time. Once you've finished it, though, you can get paid well for a very long time.
