I'm trying Andrew Wee's idea of promoting ebooks on ebay for .01 and sticking affiliate links in them. I'm confused what others are doing in regards to the Paypal fees. Did everyone make 2 separate PayPal accounts to take advantage of the micro payment fee schedule.

From what I understand, when you sign up wit Paypal you are charged the macro payment fee of % + .30. But for payments under $12 your fee is % + .05 but you must form a 2nd paypal account with a separate bank account. https://www.paypal.com/IntegrationCenter/ic_micropayments.html

Ebay listing fee = .20
Paypal macro = .30
Paypal micro = .05

By setting up a micropayment account you will save around .25 per sale if you are selling your ebook for .01. Its like cutting your PPC costs in half.

Anyone able to get a micropayment account without setting up a separate bank account?

It definitely sounds like a good reason to open a new bank account. Washington mutal has free checking with I think a $1 opening deposit so you may want to check there.

haha please tell me you know the secret to the .01 cent eBook on eBay.

But based on what you wrote I don't think you do, I thought everyone would have known by now.

First off the .01 cent eBook has nothing to do with PayPal, except for the initial charge to list your item. This technique has been used on eBay for ever and ever but it works the best with the sellers who have a store.

Here goes, when you've got your own eBay store you are charged a monthly fee, last I checked it was $15 dollars per month for a basic store, then you can sell whatever you want, that saves you on some serious eBay fee's, the problem back then (might be different now) was that the items in your eBay store did not show up in a regular eBay search but you could list items in the regular search results for practically nothing, I cannot remember the exact price I was banned from eBay over a year ago for hacking their system haha oops. I should try and get re-instated though.

Anyway you list your penny book in the regular auctions but in the auction template you insert a CLICK HERE TO VERIFY link (ever see those, look for it), this means you cannot bid on that auction until you click the link and this is where the real magic happens, that link is actually a link to your store where you've got the identical template set up except on this template you make the message say YOU'VE BEEN PRE-VERIFIED.

No one ever thinks anything of it because the pages are identical except for the verified message, so to re-cap, you find a regular auction you click a link and un-knowingly your brought to the sellers store where they are NOT charged any fee's for selling the item, they buy the item, an automatic charge is sent out, you contact the seller saying you've given them positive feedback, 9/10 times they re-contact you saying don't send the penny, but usually an email is sent to you saying don't worry about payment this one is on me.

Its an old hack which I don't know is used anymore but it basically allowed you as a seller to avoid any regular auction charges by re-directing the buyer to your ebay store where you were only charged a monthly fee.

You see this trick only worked for the people who had about 50 positive feedback and who had a rating of over 98%.

I got banned for using the penny eBooks to overcome the feedback system, I knew that 9/10 people would give it to me for free so I had like 5 bucks at the time in my paypal account, I wen't around to every single penny auction I could find and clicked the buy it now button, I then left a +feedback for the seller who returned the favor, this excelled my positive feedback through the roof, I had about 300 positive feedbacks in no time flat, which enabled me to get in on all the eBay features you can't get in on when you first join.

That costed me all of .20 cents since 9/10 buyers didn't want me to send the penny anyway, how did I learn about the links to the eBay stores and how did I learn about the positive feedback hack at the time.

Well one day a headline caught my eye for a penny ebook and it said "Get +75 feedback in under one hour with this system" I figured hey for a penny the info might be shit but who gives a rats ass, so I bought it and started doing it, which worked 100+ at the time, the book even came with re-sale rights.

Anyway after getting 300 positive feedback and was still in the clear I only read one other book (out of like 270) which told me all about the store hack and avoiding the additional fee's.

At that point I said to myself ok this is easy now I've got all this feedback and I'm making money from eBay already I started up a store and used the re-sale rights of the +75 rep book I bought to increase my positive rating even more but this time I wasen't the one doing the work, people were coming to me.

What happened was even though the book said I had FULL RESALE rights, apparently I did not and the owner contacted eBay and said I was selling a stolen product, well guess what the irony was I got BANNED. I was and still probably am fully capable of getting my account back I just had to send them a message, that was over a year ago, I just haven't got around to doing it yet haha.

But that was back then when fucking with eBay was fun, I have no clue how things have changed since then. Like those micro-payments your talking about who fucking knows.

I don't know if that works anymore. All the .01 ebooks I see on there have at least .99 shipping/handling charges that they get you with.

Aequitas,

Interesting way around the system. I had no idea about it, never messed with ebay until recently. I didn't even think to setup a store on there...will look into that.

hmm most of the .01 ebooks I see have free shipping. Example below
eBay: Illinois Travel and Campgrounds ebook Resell Rights (item 270131400504 end time Jun-15-07 18:28:00 PDT)

Guessing they have affiliate links for Illinois travel companies, since they have to be losing money on the fees.

Resell Rights seem like a joke on there. Anyone can buy your ebook for the .01 then claim its theres, then email ebay telling them you don't have rights to it. There can't be some official resell rights form for ebooks is there? That seems like something official a lawyer would have to draw up.

Yeah take it from me don't ever sell bull shit re-sale rights products, basically what I got myself into way back then was I bought the product from a person who had re-sale rights but apparently because I didn't buy it direct from the owner I had no re-sale rights, even though the book was not edited and didn't say anything about it.

Its a bit of a piss off to get banned for selling something for .01 cent that I didn't require payment for haha.

Is there a way to set up your auction so you can automatically set up delivery of your ebook - or an email with a download link.

I know you can set up paypal buy it buttons like that, but I'm not sure how they work with ebay.

Even if you charge .99 you could probably sell quite a few and break even. I've seen the affiliate link in ebooks idea before, and it would be sweet if you didn't have to mess with delivery.

Yes, when you list an item, they ask if it's a digital product. Then you input your download link, and the buyer gets it after they purchase.
