EMD worth getting?

I'm not really up to date in the SEO game anymore. I just heard that Cutts roled out a penalty for EMDs some time ago. Now I have this EMD with a name that even makes sense (brandable) in a pretty nice niche.

Will it be easier to rank for the EMD-Term with the EMD or is that now even harder than with a normal domain name (because of the penalty)?

I think you should have content outside of just the KWs though,

EMD update was supposedly leveling the playing field, taking away the big boost that the names used to carry. I found that it was a low quality site update more so, in that sites only targeting a singular topic were pretty much disregarded until more content and KWs were utilized.
