Ok, gentlemen and gay webmasters, take a quick break from throwing feces at each other like caged apes in Grunin's thread and take a look:

I've been meaning to write something up in the Enlightened Members forum about this topic because I've gotten a lot of value from posts by CCarter and some others in there.

But I just came across this (almost) perfect example of profitable trolling and figured this was as good a time as any to share this with you guys before FB inevitably rips the pages down so you can see what they're doing.

When done correctly, it's so easy any gay webmaster can pull it off for at the VERY LEAST a low five figure payout over just a few days. And if you're just a little more patient and strategic, much MUCH more.

Here's how this particular example works:

This person made an inflammatory Facebook group sure to piss off a share-happy demographic: mothers.

People share things that evoke emotion: funny, goofy, sad, heartwarming, etc. But the #1 emotion BY FAR that evokes shares: ANGER

People get pissed and they want others to get pissed to validate their own anger.

Pitchforks are picked up and obviously theres a backlash...dipshit bloggers blog about it and sometimes even major blogs that roll around in cash by pandering to the lowest common denominator of online intelligence like HuffPo, Jezebel, the Blaze, etc will pick it up for a huge surge of notoriety.

It's only a matter of time before the SJW retaliation comes out and backlash Facebook groups are made and even online petitions are set up.

https://www.facebook.com/removeyourtattoosmakeyouahorriblemother

Heck they're even creating t-shirts for the cause! Because that's what all good social justice movements do, right? WE MUST RALLY AGAINST THIS DISCRIMINATION! IN FACT, I'LL BUY TWO TSHIRTS!

Now could it be that the same person that launched that hateful page also stoked the fires to piss off thousands of darling young mothers sitting there with their stretch out, faded tramp stamp from 1999?

And launch the petitions against themselves...and "leak" the scoop to SJW bloggers...and create the retaliatory FB pages...

Yes. That's what they're doing. And profiting like hell.

Ask me how I know. :cool-smiley-008:

Now, here's where this campaign is sloppy:

1) It's a bit too obvious (my opinion but obvious plenty of idiots are falling for it)

2) They're jumping the gun on monetization, IMO. From what I've found they aren't selling the tshirts yet but they are testing the waters by offering a "contest" on one of the retaliatory pages. They need more media attention to really get the word out first.

3) They haven't gotten the attention of major blogs yet. It really often only takes one. HuffPo or Jezebel has the most idiot writers in the world and one post from them can make you golden.

Here's another example with at least one major blog that fell for the honeypot:

The page is gone now but it was titled, "Military Parents Abuse Their Children"

The Blaze, The Inquisitor and others all fell for it.

Again, the target was share-happy dependapotamus military wives that do nothing but sit on the couch, watch Maury and share shit on Facebook all day.

Monetization methods included tshirts and other "PROUD TO BE A GODDAMN MILITARY WIFE" shit. They made a killing and still are from the retaliatory pages, sites, etc. they set up.

Now, don't limit yourself to this simple of a concept. The primary takeaway is to be the "evil bastard" and "knight in shining armor" at the same time.

The easiest way to sell to idiots is to give them an injustice to rally around. If there's no injustice already present and convenient, create the injustice.

And then manipulate the hell out of the gullible (and largely apathetic to the truth) digital media. They don't give a shit about journalistic integrity...it's all about the page views. Hell, you're doing them a favor.

I've been doing this in one form or another for quite some time. When Ryan released "Trust Me I'm Lying" (required reading...seriously, get it) I said "Shit! The jig is up! There's no way my bag of tricks will work now!"

But to my extremely pleasant surprise, it didn't stem the tide a single bit. In fact, if you have half a brain (and some Machiavellian tendencies help) then you can pull this off for profit all day, every day in hundreds of different ways.

Remember, don't just rip off what these tools are doing...I mean, sure...you'll grab a few bucks in the short run but the REAL money is in:

1) Being a bit more subtle and just a hair more patient to really milk the outrage in a dozen or more different monetization ways.

2) Representing some big brands doing this. Trust me, when you swallow the red pill it gets really easy to connect the dots back to major companies that are actively employing these strategies. Again, read Ryan's book to see how he did it for American Apparel and other brands.

Good luck bros.

Someone did a good blog post about this back when the stuff happened with the Duck Dynasty guy.

I believe it was this one:
Inside the Social-Response Lab of A&E's 'Duck Dynasty' | Media - Advertising Age

Not entirely the same...the magic really happens when you can control your own destiny by creating the buzz yourself. You have more control over the injustice and as a result, the best way to retaliate.

In short, you control both sides of the puppet.

I'm not saying that capitalizing on existing trends isn't effective. It definitely is...but instead of simply riding the coattails of the existing buzz, artificially creating a furor around it can be a much more profitable endeavor.

So in the Duck Dynasty's case, instead of just creating a page that says "I STAND WITH PHIL" like tons of people did, instead I'd have created a page to the effect of, "PHIL WAS RIGHT! ALL GAYS ARE EVIL!" or something to that effect.

So the furor is piggybacked off the trending hype, but becomes it's own subject in and of itself since it's not all about Phil, but more about the anti-gay agenda in and of itself.

Hope that makes sense the way I said it. Sometimes it's difficult to convey properly once the level of depravity gets two or three levels deep.

Yeah, I see what you mean. I remember another site a while back that claimed to let labs buy cats and dogs to use for experiments, it caused a shitstorm. After the owner admitted it was a hoax, he used it to get donations for the Humane Association or something.

"Jesus was a nigger". How's that?

Or I guess it has to be personal, so more like "if you have pitbulls and kids you're a shitty parent". Then incite pitbull rescues to argue they're great pets, victims of dog bites to argue otherwise, etc

+1 on the military wives thing. As someone who was in the service, I can tell you that all military wives think their husbands are heros and, because of that, they'll raise a shit storm when they find out the slightest thing that went against their husband happened. Even doing shit like calling the commander to yell at him. You can't go directly to the commander as an enlisted, you'll have to go up the chain one person at a time but, if you're the wife, you can do whatever you want. And the commander has to deal with it too or else *all the other wives* will get on his ass as well.

Those bitches really have nothing better to do than gossip. Like, all they do is sit on a remote base all day. No need for a job since the gov increases a soldier's pay once their married to cover for the wife.

Talk about people just ripe for the picking. Their just waiting for the next outrage to come along so they can bitch about it.

I actually made $400 in one weekend from a similar thing a few falls back. It was a story I picked up on a military forum. I realized it'll go viral any minute so I quickly snatched the EMD.net and threw up a 1 page site. The site ranked for the term and got 40,000 views that weekend once it made the news (it even appeared on TV). The site was monetized by AdSense so I could have done better in regards to milking the traffic.

Basically, someone/something did something bad and my site said "X is a bad person/company/entity!" Given what I've read here and from Holiday's book, I should have made the site "X and all other people who are supporters of X are Terrible! Lets rally together and support Y, their doing it right!"

Then, I could have monetized the traffic for shit more. T-shirts, signups to a Pro-military newsletter that'll update you when something else that affects military families happen, military friendly stores that offer military coupons (aff link of course), etc. I can't go any further cuz I know some of you have sites in this niche already.

Anyways, this is Enlightened material IMO. I vote to move it there. GJ OP.

Good post. I'm going to see if "Trust me I'm lying" is in audiobook format. You sold me on reading it.

Maybe it's the Christian or Canadian in me, but I would need to make hundreds a day minimum in order to purposely piss off a bunch of people. IMO, on your death bed you're going to be like WTF did I do with my life lol. Not trying to hate, just think it's a lot of work + negativity for a mediocre payday.

How do you spread your inflammatory Facebook group around? Reddit? Twitter?

There's a million and a half ways to get a few thousand likes to a Facebook page to create a crowd that draws a crowd in a snowball effect.

First, buy a thousand or so Likes to start off from Fiverr so you have the appearance of a base following.

Once you have the appearance of a few thousand people following, you can anonymously post them up for "Lulz" in forums where our youth of today spend all their time talking about God knows what. The 4Chans of the world.

Reddit? Twitter?

Yes. Meh.

trolling to the max for profit, where's Jeffrey, Dwight, tomaz, dresden (remember him), fuck pewep, they would be millionaires next month

If this method were only making "hundreds a day" it wouldn't be worth my or my clients time to even consider it.

Good luck with the whole Christian and Canadian thing, bro.

Haha sorry I missed the part about making 5 figures or more in a short amount of time and thought you were doing all this shit for a few grand total lol, my bad.

haha this is some good old fashioned wickedfire shit.

makes me think of that fit mom shit storm that popped off a year or two ago.

+rep. Some smart out of the box shit here. Curious how you're setting it up so that the people and the money flock to YOUR retaliation sites in lieu of other sites?

Just an idea: Talk about how this new anti-group just popped up and members on there are mothers who should have been (insert something really edgy here) at birth. I personally don't think I could do this niche tho, I do however see endless amounts of people to piss off lol

great post. great to see good WF threads on actually making money online.

the online hatemobs that spring up across social media fascinate me. they really are a modern phenomenon. NYtimes did a good article on them recently
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/15/magazine/how-one-stupid-tweet-ruined-justine-saccos-life.html

i'd love to say i'm immune but there's nothing i like more than winding down with a bit of hatereading, especially when I'm hungover.

so the idea definitely will get loads of likes and views but I'm not too sure on the monetisation. people rage and then move on to the next drama, I don't think enough will buy t-shirts to make enough money.
