Do you guys have any standard of ethics in affiliate marketing? I get the feeling that for most people it's just "I'll do whatever won't get me investigated by the government". I find drawing that line can be difficult given that the laws can't catch up with how fast the industry evolves. Just thinking of this after watching a video about how the FTC is investigating all those fake blogs promoting rebills.

What video?

Hello friend,

I think whole point of affiliate marketing is for scam people to make good monies and live life of luxury. Some time you do it legal and some time no is legal.

If no want scam people no become affiliate marketer just like if no want kill people no become hitman.

Good luck bro

Ethics are all relative, so let's get that out of the way first.

Like any other industry, there are people that are more ethical and there are those that are less. But as long as someone is not breaking the law, you can't expect them not to push the envelope in any business. How ethical is McDonalds for selling heart attacks $5 at a time? How ethical is Google, for taking affiliates money to promote rebills? How ethical was the banking industry for uh, just about everything they do? How ethical are the traders on Wall Street that short sell companies out of existence for a profit?

This shit is business, if you want an ethical career become a nurse or teacher. You can't expect affiliates to play nice while the rest of the business world gets rich. I'm not saying you have to be unethical, but don't fool yourlself into thinking that affiliate marketing is any different than any other business with large sums of money involved.

I see what you are saying, lets ignore ethics for a moment then.

Lets say you come up with a new way of marketing a product, and that method is of questionable legality. How do you determine whether or not to take the risk? What about for existing possibly illegal methods that are being investigate (flogs promoting rebills for example). I'm curious as to how people determine where to draw the line.

Their is a HUGE difference between what is legal and what is ethical. Stop dancing around the issue and hiding behind the "ethics" issue.

IMO If you don't have the sense to know if something is legal or not, don't fawkin do it.

Basically the reason I stopped affiliate marketing. Was making good money too, but I felt like an asshole. Even just with dating, ringtones, etc. Which aren't even some of the really bad ones. Whenever someone asked me where I worked I would tell them I am an internet marketer. It sounds pretty badass but then I would always think in the back of my head: "Oh I promote dating sites, acai berriez, and a bunch of other scams."

EDIT: Making your own product is where it's at.

Maybe so, but I bet you wouldn't be able to create your own product without that seed capital from your berriezzz campaign. Lets face it without a nice cushion in your bank you would be too worried about paying rent than figuring out which product to create or the logistics behind it. The first million is the hardest and anyone who tells you they did it without taking a few shortcuts and muddling in the "grey" is a fucking liar.

I have no standard of ethics in real life so no fuck way I'm gonna have standards trying to get monies from internet idiots.

Some affilaite of mine added a terms of service on top of is flog. On TOP.

... I stopped helping him.

Given the number of people that are getting shitcanned for flogs and rebills he is probably just trying to protect himself.
