I'm really not sure anymore. It used to mean that you were an immigrant from Africa living in America, but its meaning seems to have changed.
The same shit as British-Asian I guess. The media lumps people with ancestors from across a massive continent into one convenient label.
I can kinda understand it when it's within a generation or two - a lifetime, and even more so when they are of indigenous descent, but when people go back centuries to call themselves Irish or Italian American, or half/quarter/eighth/sixty-fourth whatever, it just looks like they don't want to be just whatever nationality they are.
Not many people here that describe themselves as Roman-English or Norse-Briton, although many Scots seem to like the Celtic label and then there's the political bullshit Anglo-Saxon thing....
It's all crap and just emphasises differences but I'm sure the media and government love that.

What I really love is when someone calls someone else African-American when they're black, but neither... The look on their faces is fucking funny.
i dont know why some African Americans get insulted when they are called black. Yet when African americans call light skinned people "white", "whiteboy", its considered "ok"....i just never understood that.
I had a class last year with a Caribbean islander. Only black guy in the class. On the first day of class, the professor started talking about Martin Luther King Jr and how he had done great things "for your people" (addressed to the aforementioned islander). He said "no, not really".
Awkward.

Along time ago when big business was just getting started . When cottin factories needed workers to save money they would get black people from africa to work for them. Because they were uneducated and easy to control.
But to make America more successful the masters knew that they couldn't keep importing slaves...
They needed MORE people...
So the white slave masters started to enslave their own kind aswell...
And if you work a 9-5 job your a slave.
The only difference from 200 years ago is that your getting paid for your work.
So in reality , race has nothing to do with anything. It's a cover up for men trying to be like god.

Hey guys - I'm black and I think the concept is pretty idiotic. But you have to realize that it's more of a cultural play than anything else. Kind of like BET, or Black planet or Telemundo and MiGente for hispanic people.
B/C Blacks are like 15% of the population and media in general takes primarily one cultural point of view - this is why thing like this start to appear.
So while I disagree with the premise of a "Black search engine" or a "black web browser" - I understand why its done.
I also think the "Fried Chicken" comment was really fucked up...

wasn't really taking him on - he's the man. and I am a MAJOR newbie at affil marketing. but it wasnt all that cool to me.
As far the African American, I like the term but I also like being called black as well. I have never met any black person that was insulted to be called black. The browser is a pretty dumb ideal. When BET and other black orientated programming there was a need for that niche. I don't need a browser to tell me where the black shit on the web is at. I have the brains to use google and the address bar. Any time I need a dose of black experience online, for example trying to find Black Street Hooker Orgies 76, go to google and blam..there it is.
