Flixter & Rotten Tomatoes Sold to Warner Bros

And I'm sure they'll just happen to forget to post a few bad reviews of their movies.

That's more the point I was getting at. Obviously Warner Bros have nothing to lose, but the reputation of RT itself could be tarnished -- probably not because some people just blindly use whatever is popular, but you never know.

The value of RT's influence definitely shouldn't be overlooked as part of their interest in the property. I basically don't watch movies anymore without consulting RT, old or new.

Usually I then follow up with a glance at the IMDB score...between those two sources it is hard to "epicly wrong" with a movie selection.

Being that my wife n' I have a 16 month old child, the amount of movies we've watched has decreased by about 85%.

..that being said, whenever we DO watch movies, I usually only check out RT's home page for the % rating (usually of the just released DVD's since getting to the theatre's is a chore trying to find a baby sitter)..

..and with ^THAT being said, we've found more and more lately that the % ratings just aren't that accurate with our personal tastes. Seems more and more that they love to rate boring ass lame shit GREAT; and we're not some retarded pushovers who love mindless movies.

..and with ^THAT fuckin said, things will only get worse because there's an obvious conflict of interest now with this purchase.

edit: i just irritated myself reading that annoying ^THAT shit i just pulled on you all, sorry.

Well... you have a point with the RT's highest rated movies. Usually most movies in the 95%+ range are either:
-Extremely old, were "ground breaking" for their time, hard to watch now
-Pixar style animated film
-Foreign
-So artsy there's barely a plot, cataloging daily boring life is common
-Super melodramatic and full of adversity

I find the sweet spot is in the 80-90ish range. For me, most rotten rated movies really don't end up being very good. And I do like artsy movies... just not over the top. 70's flicks seem to most often hit the perfect blend of compelling storytelling and edgy film making.
