Ok, I'm so bad at promoting flogs. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Have you guys found that your flog (design, layout, ad copy) largely determines CTR to the offer? Or do you think as long as you have a decent flog the traffic you are using largely determines the CTR from the flog to the offers? I know its really a combination of the two, but to me it seems like as long as you have a decent flog the traffic quality really determines the CTR. Am I right?

I think I have a decent flog and my CTR to the offer is horrible. I created 2 different flogs for the same niche and they perform about the same and have a similar layout/copy to most other flogs.

On google content network I get a 10% CTR from the flog to the 1st offer.
On adsonar I get a 5% CTR from the flog to the 1st offer.

What is a good CTR? I have heard that you should try and aim for 50%. I don't see how that's possible unless you have extremely targeting traffic or your landing page is one giant button or something @_@.

Try out crazyegg or clicktale. See where your visitors are clicking, and place some affiliate links their, or some juicy info on the offer. I got my CTR to offer to increase greatly by turning a few images into links.

Split test various things, see what works and what doesn't.

cool, I will try that out. What CTR are you guys getting? 10% seems really low imo.

10% CTR is extremely low for an LP. Are you sure your Keyword/Ad destination URL's are correct...? If they are then you need a new LP design and better page copy. Also you should think about using different keywords/placements... unless they are converting of course.

Low LP ctr can be caused by a lot of different variables. The way I think about it is breaking down the problem into parts:
traffic -> ad -> LP -> offer -> conversion.

So for low LP ctr, it could be traffic, your ads, or your LP. If you think it's your LP, clicktale/crazyegg will help you with better layout design. If you think it's your ads, make a bunch of new ads. But from what you've said, sounds like traffic source is the problem. Adsonar, I would treat as a media buy, in that you need to burn some cash to figure out which placements are profitable.

clicktale's feature that tells you how far most users are scrolling down the page should be great for analyzing flogs. you can't be sure what they are thinking but if there is a steep drop off at any point you may have put something in there that is sounding people's bullshit detector.

I'm no expert, but I've found that both choice of KWs and the LP itself can make a huge difference in CTR.

With the same set of keywords, I've moved my LP CTR from 10% to 20% to 80% (!) by just changing the LP.

However, note that my overall conversion rate didn't change much when I did this. I wish the 80% CTR got me 8 times the conversions of the 10% CTR page, but it didn't -- the problem is that the best technique for driving a high LP CTR often does amount to "one giant button" as you put it -- making practically every action a user takes lead to the offer. While this drives LP CTR, that's not the same as selling your offer. I think when my page had a 10% LP CTR, the people who bothered to click through were the ones who actually wanted to buy -- whereas with the 80% CTR, I had a lot of people clicking through more or less by accident.

If you would like, I can look over your lander (the copy in particular), and offer some suggestions.

^^ haha!

Someone else mentioned low ctr to the offer from adsonar. I ran a test too and it sucked hard. Normal ctr around 45%, adsonar ctr around 20%

Back to the drawing board I think
