I need some kind of steady work. Here's a list of some of my skills; you can read the paragraphs underneath if you're interested:

- Linux admin (RedHat EL, CentOS, Debian, BSD, Solaris, SunOS -- in decreasing order of expertise)
- Technical and creative writing (Bachelor's in English)
- MySQL + PHP + Perl + shell scripting (intermediate level)
- I can learn anything.

I usually do contract work from home, but my hours have really been short lately and I need to bring my income back up.

I've got 14 years of professional computing experience in various positions. I started out doing C programming and administration on a Sun 4 in the early 90's and started working at an ISP a couple years later, where I went from the NOC to senior network engineer in a year or so via on the job training.

I've been a DNS administrator, IP engineer, firewall admin, Perl monkey, and web designer and developer -- although honestly my web development has been mediocre so far because I haven't applied myself in that area. I am the guy they talked about when they came up with the term "Jack of all trades."

Ideally, I would like to apprentice myself out to someone who knows the selling side of things and pick up tips from them while I do the technical work. I usually make $35 an hour, but I am willing to take less than that because honestly -- I'm hurting for work.

Examples of things I've done;

- Maintained several WordPress sites; made changes to plugins and themes; made themes from scratch.

- Developed my own sites from scratch like ezSmiley: An AJAX Smiley Creator, Generator, and Gallery -- it's slightly fucked up in different browsers, but I haven't taken the time to fix it. Plus I think my ads are on top of the damn modal box now, so I have to fix the z-index shit.

- Developed and maintained an Everquest guild site, with custom PHP code and MySQL database tables for tracking game achievements, roster, attendance, unique vBulletin skin, shit like that.

I have tons of great ideas for sites and applications, but I have analysis paralysis. I'm not sure what would be the most productive use of my time, so I end up going back and forth and fracturing my focus too much.

I can give professional references and writing samples.

Hire me. I am fucking amazing, but I need direction.

Thanks for your time, bitches. :music07:

Unfortunately the other half of that original phrase is "master of none".
That's not what your mom said! Instant Rimshot

Seriously, though, I don't claim to be a master PHP programmer who developed a 500,000 line monster website that handles 5000 queries a second and gives blowjobs. I don't claim to be an uber DB Admin who was manager of 20 other DBA's at Amazon, improving their efficiency by 0.05%. I also didn't design the NSA's security protocols.

What I am is smart as hell, and I love a challenge. See my original post above for the rest of the details.

Doing one thing is boring. I like learning new stuff.

Thanks for busting my balls, though; it's appreciated. :liebe028:

wrong. it's really only 25% of the total saying... and when put together in its entirety quite complimentary.

[jack of all trades] [master of none] [though often better than a master of one]
I've never actually heard that last part before, and I'm pretty well-read.

I whole-heartedly support that version, however!

I'm currently involved in a project that will probably keep me busy through this week, and my wife and I will be vacationing from the 21st through the first week of April, so I'm actually not taking any more projects on for the next 3 weeks.

Thanks for your interest! I will post again in this thread when I'm available for new projects.
