You hear a lot of remarks from celebrities, and among normal people on how once they had a child they gave up smoking, stopped being selfish, etc.. Which seems fair to some degree since you have a life in your hands.

Once you started having children, what did you give up or how did your life change?

I gave up chew. It was a nasty habit that I'd been doing too long anyway, so I told my wife that I would give it up when Sophia was born in December. It was a bitch to kick it, but I haven't touched it since..but I still get cravings for it now and then. Life is much better without it though.

I don't know that I necessary gave up anything in total but I did re-direct significant time, resources, money to the family unit vs. partying, drinking, etc. I still play (a lot) but the family gets taking care of first. All things considered it was a relatively painless adjustment. It's better now.

Go out less and pretty much only drink once a week now opposed to the 3-4 times prior.

I stopped smoking when I found out I was pregnant with my first. You give up alot of stuff actually, but it's only temporary. The first few years are the hunker down and weathering...it gets easier every single year. Until teenager, or so I'm told, I might be longing for the starting years at that point.

man it would be hard for me to give up chew. Need to have a chew before hockey and after or I cant perform.

You gotta give up pullin your wanker, if they ever catch you then it's game over. How do you explain that to your 3 yr old kid who likes to tell the rest of the neighborhood what goes on in your house?

OMFG!

I almost spit my drink all over my computer monitor. That shit is hilarious!

Your 3 year old communicates at that level? Have you never heard of locks? Or Hell trap yourself in the bathroom for 2 minutes (or maybe it takes you 30 seconds these days).

Least you don't have a 2 year old who out in public pops his thing out of his diaper in front of girls and goes 'pee pee?', I spend more time trying to explain children's actions to those who don't have em than explaining other's actions to them (and not sure exactly how you'd explain half the things that go on to a 1, 2 and 3 year old. basically my dialog lately has been yucko, hot, don't touch, stop sitting on your brother, don't eat that, get off the ground, stop picking your nose, get your hand out of your diaper, no throwing, go lay down, owie owie, and maybe 50 other things you can think of.)

I'm figuring out some new things I wouldn't mind giving up now that my wife been working 3rd shift most days... I probably wouldn't mind giving up a few bucks for rolls of duct tape and maybe some animal tranquilizers.

It was a bitch man, let me tell you. Seriously, that's all I thought about for 3 weeks, night and day. Every time I saw a gas station or 7-11, I had to force myself not to pick up a can. Pissed off, angry, depressed, all the emotions. It sucked. Nicotine withdrawls are not something I could go through again.

It got better after about a month, but if I see someone putting in a dip, it still triggers the cravings. I'm about 7 months without it now. I don't ever want to go back to that shit. Having a lower jaw and living to see my little girl grow up is a much better option.

What was the reasoning behind giving up weed in relation to having kids? Just don't see the correlation if you are responsible ...

Kinds hard to take care of kids when you're high (or drunk)...

It's just not that responsible to be stoned when you are raising kids. Even if they are asleep, they can still wake up screaming at any point for whatever reason and you better be ready to handle it in case of emergency.

Basically when you have kids you stop putting yourself (and your fun) first and think about your kids first...
