I know there are a number of foreclosure listing companies out there including foreclosures.com, realtytrac.com, etc.

They all give a free 7 day trial and after that rape you for like $50 a month... Does anyone know of a truly free foreclosure listing service? Even if it only listed addresses and prices that would be fine...

This isnt for a new website or anything, this is for me trying to find property...

Yes, banks issue them, contact the respective bank real estate departments, they all have lists of available inventory, that is where the foreclosure services get their data, from mortgage financing companies.

Most larger cities have a "legal news" paper that lists public filings and lawsuits going through the court system, search for that or as others mention check with the local tax collectors office that collects real estate taxes for your county.

Do municipalities and counties keep online records of these as well? Or only in hard copy versions?

some do some don't. I know clark county in nevada did, but the smaller counties did not. The best way is to catch them before they go in to foreclosure though.

I have a house in vegas for a smoking deal if someone wants it.

LOL man, you are an opportunist for sure !!

There are more data sources today versus 25 years ago with the web, but as you say, each county is different, so is each city, the best thing you can do is hire a competent real estate attorney and ask him to teach you the ropes on how foreclosures work in your area.

You will need a lawyer to understand and close most deals anyway.

you can get free listings at the courthouse. Ive been using realtytrac for a few months, i almost bought a place with my brother. But the deal fell through.
We found a house that was super cheap because some guy just shot himself in the head in it. Its a nice place except we just have to fill in the bullet hole;)
