I have a friend who is musically talented and looking to gain some sort of experience. Are Elance and places like that about it for freelancing with this kind of thing, or is there somewhere else I'm missing? Google wasn't a lot of help.

I'd be interested in this as well. I know there's a guy here (forget the nick) who makes a living writing stuff for car commercials and such.

From what I've seen of music gigs on freelancing sites, the jobs are few, but very easy for someone with access to resources and education. So if your friend can counterpoint the midis until they dubstep, he should be fine. $500 contract is the largest one I've seen to date, and it was to write something for a cheesy product promo.

Not sure your buddies style or skill, but he could check out some of the game engine forums that have commercial sections.

For example I use Unity 3d and they have 2 sections, job seeking and job offering.
Commercial: Job Seeking
Commercial: Job Offering

You need a good show reel to show prospective clients. I'd recommend starting out small, doing some free gigs to build up a "finished projects" section in the resume if he doesn't have a good reel showing his experience.

Unity has an asset store where your friend can sell his music for use by others in games: Unity - Submitting your content to the Asset Store

Depends on what kind of stuff he's making...

That's pretty cool. Thanks to you guys for your suggestions. :banana_sml:

I would be interested in doing something like that if the market is big enough. Even just as a free lance gig on the side as opposed to full time. Sounds like it would be a fun job.
