I have been approached by a client who wants some SEO work doing, to rank for some french keywords.

I have never done anything other than the english language, so heres some basic questions:

Where do I get articles written in french? :S
I'm presuming I just promote like normal, links links links, except the articles will have to be written in french.

Any other things I should know about promoting for a different language?

Hello Jake,

I'm french native and yes, doing SEO in french is the same that English exept you have to write the article in french.

Look onto freelancer.com. Lot of french people ready to write for a competitive price.

Alright guys thanks, a few more things...

Does anyone have a list of french article directories?
Also, im looking at the amount of searches per month, and they seem off. For example french use accents above there letters, but when I look on google keyword tool, the phrase with the accents get hardly any searches, but the same word without the accent does. My french client assures me however that people defo search with the accents, as it wouldn't make sense without them.

So, I'm confused, does the keyword tool not work with accents or something?

Usually, people don't write accents when searching, you are correct. I use Market Samurai to do keyword research in different languages - you can see the results with accents too.

I guess this is a case of proving to your client he is wrong... show him the data maybe ?

Think that many people use accent when searching on google or yahoo.

Accents are not in Google keywords that's right (never saw that before) but are they taken.

For example try to search for mother (="mère") -> It will put the first word "mère" at the top and the several keywords will be without accents.

I think that will be better to use accents for your articles titles.
