Having never owned a TV I decided a month or so back to purchase one. Mainly because we'd moved house and the living room looked odd without a TV in it and the Mrs wanted it blah blah.

Previously my TV viewing had consisted of sport and the odd good TV series which I'd buy on DVD. Both of which I'd watch via my desktop.

So now I have a 40" LCD and FUCK ME is everyday TV a pile of absolute SHIT...

I have 500 channels of wall to wall ads and utter shit. You can't even channel surf the ads as they start and stop them at the same time. And as for the programming, retarded wouldn't be enough you 'd need to be brain dead to enjoy this shit.

I shudder to think how stupid the next generation is going to be with 5 hours of this shit a day since they were 2 years old.

The TV will still be useful for DVDs and such like but I feel I'm losing brain cells switching to normal TV for even a moment.

I always hated those nazi parents who didn't let their kids watch TV, but there is no way I'm letting my kids sit in front of this shit.

Gave mine up around 7 years ago. Utter mind-numbing garbage constantly pumping other people's worldviews and marketing garbage. I was a nazi with my kids about TV but it hasn't stopped them watching it now.
 
I stopped watching TV when The Oprah Show stopped. That lady helped me through the darkest moments of my life. (Pun intended) Muuuahahhahaa
 
Also on a side note, its a tad ironic that you rant about how dumb and mindnumbing the television is on STS in WF. For fuck sakes the threads today are about time travel, a video of indians shouting ".Hack is our daddy" , hip hop dating back to 1990's and a dude being busted for sex with a teddy bear..
 
Start watching some of the series on HBO/Showtime. Tons of great shit on there, no stupid ads.

Some cunt somewhere thinks that a teenage vampire program and a real life show about some fat family eating donuts is as good as life gets or an important topic and a good use of his time watching.
 
If you are in the IT world, and you are paying to watch commercial-bloated consumer television... You are doing it wrong.

If you really want to fuck with the cable company, tell them you want to drop the TV channels from the service. First they'll think you mean you want to cancel your entire account. After explaining you still want the internet, they act confused like 'how are you gonna watch TV?'

If you remain resolved to removing the TV channels from your service, they will finally do it, but it actually costs more without the TV channels.
 
I'm ready to throw away my TV too.

What really bothers me is that all the scripted TV shows nowadays are either (A) cop shows (B) law shows, (C) hospital dramas, or (D) stupid comedies about dumb guys married to smart and sexy women.

The problem with that is I'm not into: (A) forensic science (B) douchbag lawyers, (C) hospitals or sickness, or (D) being trained to obey some liberal/feminist propaganda agenda.

So yeah...fuck TV.
 
I rarely watch t.v anymore.

If I watch any shows I have them pre-recorded or I just watch them online.

I find commericals extremely annoying.... waste of time.

This. I'm not a big fan of TV, but there's no denying the fact that HBO, Showtime, AMC and a few others have been consistently producing high quality shows.
 
Lived for the past 3 years without a TV. The only time I watch a bit of it is when I visit my parents and even then all it accomplishes is to remind me how useless it is.

I think what happened is I got spoiled by being 24/7 on the computer because I'm used to watching only what I really like and what I specifically chose. So TV is kind of exact opposite of that.
 
Not only are there way too many commercials, but the commercials are significantly louder than the program. I think they do this somehow with the cable box. There is supposed to be legislation to stop this, but they are still doing it for now. It is ridiculous, I have to mute the tv whenever the commercials come on.

It also seems like 99% of the commercials are car insurance commercials. And Geico's are the worst, wow. I saw a new one today where this dude was completely covered in money and some guy got some money off of him and then he drove off on a motorcycle. Idk what the point of it was because I had it muted, but it was probably as pointless as all their other commercials lol.

I would get rid of it if it wasn't for the news channels. I can't find a way to get all the news channels without cable. And some of the stupid shows are fun to watch sometimes.
