Microsoft has been running a program call BizSpark for a number of years now. Basically it allows businesses to get licenses and services offered by Microsoft for free or at a very steep discount.

They offer free licenses to almost all of their software including Windows 8, Office 2013, Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012. They also offer steep discounts for services like Windows Azure.

Don't have a business, but you're studying?

There is a similar program called DreamSpark which offers free software and services to students.

Is it worth ditching Office 2007 for Office 2013?

I think so.

Office 2013 integrates with the cloud (skydrive) so for me it makes it easier to edit documents across different devices.

If you have multiple computers you can create on one and then continue editing on another.

I have a windows phone as well so I can create a document walking down the street, then clean it up later on my pc.

Outlook 2013 is quite nice, it will pull various information about the sender from facebook, live, etc.

It gives you a little summery (but it depends on how much outlook can find on the person) including profile image.

Also Office 365 (Microsoft's completely cloud based Office app) is good if you have a team of people that need to collaborate.
I don't use it anymore, but I played around with it a lot when it was in beta and I was impressed.

Between the 1st post ,your sig, and this last post I'm starting to think that you work for Microsoft. Regardless I've gone ahead and upgraded to office 2013 based on your recommendation, thank you.

Ballmer can I get my check now?

But in all seriousness, I would recommend any product that I use that saves me time and money.

Just so happens that most of those products are produced by Microsoft.

Add the free rapportive plugin for gmail, and get linkedin, twitter, facebook and a bunch of other networks. Awesome tool.

Is it worth ditching Office 2007 for Office 2013?

I just did this week.

Well, bought Office 360 subscription. IMO so far definitely. I have it on the Mac and PC.

I'm working on Powerpoint stuff right now - and the new Powerpoint is a million times better. The templates for word are a million times better.

Excel has some massive upgrades too. That's as far as I've got, but I'm happy with the purchase. Everything I use it for just seems faster, more intuitive and just more slick all around.

I prefered IWork to office before. Now it's the other way around. I'd say it definitely depends on your workflow - but for me I'm really happy with the decision to upgrade.

Got accepted into BizSpark today. They give direct access to MSDN which I had back in college. So you get Windows, Server, Office, and Visual Studio for free. Which is fucking amazing. You get 5 keys just for windows 8, and 2 keys for windows 7. Both mac and pc software included.

What I don't like is that they are HEAVLY looking for App developers (I am one) but as far as I see they don't have any discounted hardware. If they want me to make apps for windows I am going to need the hardware and I don't want to buy a 3rd fucking tablet or phone at full price just for development.

Well for Microsoft to give away free software it costs them visually nothing, but it does cost them something if they give away free hardware (although they do give away hardware on occasion)

But having said that, the Nokia 520 is $99 which is a decent entry level device.

Don't need free, just not retail would be awesome. I hate buying things I really don't want or need. I am highly skeptical about Microsofts mobile offerings and don't want to waste the cash. I did however forget the 520, ill have to pick one up soon. I didn't think the price had dropped that far.

I've known about this for ages, yet for some reason I've never used it (used MSDN years ago, but other than that)

Thanks loads OP, this should save me some money and convince me to buy Office instead of pirating it.
