So, this comes from my early days of being an affiliate and not knowing anything about IM (the naive will get r*ped)
when I started I went through the normal learning phase: networks, hosting, traffic etc.
one of the 1st companies I had an account with 3yrs ago was the 1st VPS after quickly leaving HostGator and shared hosting (not the thing to run p202 with heavy google traffic)
I searched for hosts and not knowing any better chose GLITTERHOST.COM since they were the 'fastest VPS' on the planet ! (at least the blogs I kept finding said so... like I said... total noob)
I set up my hosting with them AND bought one of my 1st domains for PPC.
Very soon after had issues with the VPS... it just couldnt handle the load and the owner kept saying it was the software when really it was his VPS and him trying to sell me on something that was below my needs (again I didnt know that at the time.)
So, after months of frustration and servers being down at peak load time. I moved to LW VPS and had no issues (until I did massive PPV then went to BH)
Feeling sorry for the guy I left my domain registered with him and paid for it and redirected it via DNS to my new host for 3yrs. (stupid move I know)
I paid the domain this year after I had found it was due. The reseller had held it for me and I contacted them and paid it. Thanked him for holding it. The email for re-registration had gone into my junk box and not being an active domain. I had forgot about it coming due.
So, I paid for the domain on 2-14-12 (it was due 2-04-12) and thought ever thing was fine.
This last week I went to check on the p202 connected to the domain and got the resellers sales page instead. He had taken over the domain. Changed the DNS and hosting his own page benefiting from what ever passive traffic goes to that domain.
When I contacted him and ask why I was seeing his page on my domain I paid for. He told me a made up story "that I told him I didnt have money and would he hold it for me and I would buy it back later." Never had there been a time in my life that I could not pay for a domain even a $21.45 one! (no emails from him or I to this)
When I pressed him to release it, since I had paid and had proof both in his invoices and paypal. He told me to take it up with ENOM the registar
Thats when it really got shitty.
I found out ENOM and ICANN will do NOTHING to help. Whoever's name is on the registrar is who claims it and 'owns it'
Arbitration did no good.
1. They wont answer their phone 2. They send a canned email back that says. "if you can not work it out with the re-seller. file a police report and hire an IT lawyer"
So, Avoid Glitterhost.com and Russell Chambers.
If you have a domain that he likes. He will just take it from you.
What really concerns me. Is that this happens to others too and there is little to nothing that can be done.
Be Aware and Be Warned ONLY deal with trusted re-sellers and registrars plus make sure you are on top of your renewals.
This was a stupid noob mistake from my past. I do not do it now. I hope this helps someone else.
