SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The parent company of GoDaddy.com, a top registrar of Internet domain names, has been sold to a group of private investment firms for $2.25 billion, a person familiar with the transaction told The Associated Press.

Go Daddy Group Inc.'s sale to KKR, Silver Lake and Technology Crossover Ventures comes as the company expects to top $1.1 billion in revenue this year because expanding Internet use has fueled the creation of more websites and the "domains" needed to help find them. Go Daddy announced the sale late Friday. A person close to the transaction, who asked to remain anonymous because of not being authorized to speak publicly, told the AP the sale price.

A fact sheet accompanying the release indicated that Go Daddy's revenue has grown by more than 20 percent in each of the past several years.
The Go Daddy Group Inc. was founded in 1997 by Bob Parsons, who continues to serve as its CEO. The company, based in Scottsdale, Ariz., manages more than 48 million domain names, and sells other Internet-related technologies.

I hate GoDaddy.. sends me spam every week or so even after I stopped using their service :(

Be interesting to learn if godaddy is cleared to start selling the tld.domains soon when they launch... Those are going to generate revenue in the Billions, no joke.

All my domains go through GoDaddy. No idea why there is so much hate for them, other than their shitty email service never had any problems with them over the years.
You obviously haven't had them outright steal a domain from you yet... Plenty horror storys about that around.

I also hate how they nickle-and-dime the hell out of you whenever you buy a dom. After the 37th pop-up upsell you start to get tired of their shit.

Godaddy does blow for the most part, I used them when I first started learning the internets, I use namecheap now

Considering the recent tech IPOs coming out, and how over-inflated they are, I'm surprised GoDaddy went for only $2.25 billion.

Spend $110,000 on a domain, then immediately change your MX records after the "push", and have them suspend your domain, because they couldn't contact your @domain.com mail server within the two hours it takes for the DNS records to propagate. After that, come tell me that they don't suck donkey dick.

I love 'em for their $1 domain coupons. There's one now - patriot1. But I always transfer my domains over to NameCheap as soon as I can.

Same. I have several GD accounts to take advantage of these. Run a little macro that helps it go quick and I never see the upsells. Then wait for Namecheap to do a $3 transfer kind of special. Depending on the timing of the NC discount you end up with a private reg domain for less than half retail for 20 months or so.

As bad as their Linux hosting setups are their domain management terms are even worst.
