All the threads about books, this place is starting to look like a library, but hopefully there are some folks around to give some good recommendations.

For the longest time I've been big into sci-fi literature, but recently found a new love for thrillers and suspense in particular.

Quickly got tired of Grisham. Loved the Dexter Morgan novels. Enjoyed the Bourne Trilogy and tried to read other spy novels (Clancy, to be precise), but it was just too repetitive for me.

The last 2 I read were relatively new ones - I am Pilgrim and Heist (by Daniel Silva) and they were pretty mediocre, despite RAVING reviews. Which is why I opened this thread - the marketing machine works just too well in modern literature.

Anything goes really, I just need a page turner to feed the addiction :cool-smiley-008:

Its not really a suspense/crime, but I'd highly recommend Steven King's Dark Tower series.

A bit into technology:

Gun Machine - Warren Ellis - [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0316187410/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0316187410&linkCode=as2&tag=codeschmiede-20&linkId=KTAFLYWHHSDS6ZKH"]Amazon.com: Gun Machine (9780316187411): Warren Ellis: Books[/ame]

As you're getting tired of Grisham, I'm getting into him ... at least, The Racketeer that I got in an airport was consumed happily enough to try another one that I'm just about done now.

Have you tried the first two Hannibal Lecter novels? (Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs)

If you haven't read Drood by Dan Simmons, give it a try. Even if you don't give a fuck about Charles Dickens (I sure as hell don't), this book is insanely good.

The red dragon is what I picked yesterday. I am a bit confused though - they talk about Hannibal in the first few pages and how they caught him? Don't spoil it tho :D

I also looked at every suggestion so far, and all seem good, so I will probably read them in the same order. With the exception of the Dark Tower series tho - I've read that already :)

About Grisham - how many books you've read so far? Here is a funny (sorta) review I read before getting my 5th book by him and it just snapped:

I. An idealistic lawyer – the fresher out of law school, the better; or,
II. A lawyer who has become disillusioned with the system, but will give it one last try.

He/She discovers:
A. The case he's currently working on has ties to the Mafia;
B. The case he's currently working on has ties to the KKK;
C. The case he's currently working on has ties to the highest of government; or
D. The case he's currently working on has ties to the evil health care industry.

With the help of:
1. His friends;
2. The FBI; or
3. No one, because he's an IDEALISTIC LAWYER,

He:
a. Is able to win his case;
b. Is able to turn the Mafia over to the FBI;
c. Is able to prove the conspiracy.

As his life is now in danger, he must:
i. Escape to the Caribbean or South America;
ii. Enter into the Witness Protection program;
iii. Face the reporters and live to fight another case;
iv. Retire from law.

Usually, he also manages to swindle the Mafia/Government/Whatever out of a tidy sum of:
*$10 million.

When it comes to thriller books, I've always been a fan of Dan Brown. Angels and Demons is my favorite among his novels.

Any and every short story / novella Stephen King wrote including the Bachman books (too bad he pulled Rage). You can't go wrong.
