How much of your personal search does Google use to determine how to treat your sites?
Do you think if you searched for "buy links", "blackhat forums", "how to spam"... etc, etc, that Google would keep a sharper eye on your own sites?

It wouldn't surprise me if they did link it together.. and I'm fuckin' lazy, always signed into Google.

If they do link the terms you search for with sites they identify as yours, through Analytics, Adsense, etc, then it wouldn't be a big leap for them to also take into account the nature of the emails you get in gmail....

Then again, they might not do evil.

Sometimes I wonder if I should use an alternate browser (like IE) to order domain names or do some sensitive searches with. I use FireFox with the Google toolbar. Google has so much analytical power, I have actually RDP'd into a remote server I manage just to order whois privacy for a domain for fear G will 'tag' it as mine.
(as I reach for my tinfoil hat)

I'm sure they've thought of doing that before, but I wonder about the legalities of it.
I mean, does Google operate as a single business? Or are the sub-businesses operated as independent financial entities from the parent conglomerate?
Seriously, I have no idea. Does anyone know?

If they're technically separate businesses, then I'd assume privacy legislation prevents them from doing this sort of thing.
Kinda like how a hospital knows you just came in OD-ing from drug use, but they can't really grass you out to the cops over said drug use (unless you get violent while you're in there).
They're both Government services, but they don't communicate with each other.

Don't forget, Google's also got stuff installed in your pets now. Best rug them up too... like this guy...

Sometimes I catch myself thinking about stuff like that. I actually have couple of google accounts and when I'm searching for "delicate" stuff I use unpersonalized search (I got a firefox plugin for that).

So,yes I'm wearing a thinfoil hat.

Well, they do ban Adsense users by linking IPs, cookies, domains, accounts etc. If you've got the Google Toolbar installed too, you might as well just write out all the shady stuff you're doing on a postcard, and send it to them.

People think Google is nice. On the surface they are. But it doesn't matter, really.

That's what Yahoo thought too, when it let them serve its search results. Now look at them.

Also, these are the search guys. That's their business. It's what they're famous for. Who knows what they could come up with if they input a domain name or an IP they found 'troublesome'.

The fact that people rely on them not doing this is a masterpiece of propaganda, deliberate or otherwise.

The greatest conqueror of all is one who persuades other nations to give him the keys to their kingdoms, willingly.
