Dan's stupid yet effective ways of getting Google to suck his cock nicely:
Took one of my oldest registered domains, registered in 2004, and started updating it again. This site was updated weekly from 2004 to 2005, then I lost interest in it and only updated it to create backlinks to my other sites several times a year. Was a fucker of a slow loading site because I made the mistake of paying a "designer" to create it and she was retarded. Now I redesigned it using Wordpress, got rid of almost all the old content, and began updating it daily.
I thought I'd be screwed with so many 401 errors (the site has a lot of backlinks pointing to old articles I'm no longer publishing.) I thought my site would be screwed because of the redesign and changing to a new content management system.
But, surprisingly, no. I'm posting articles about stuff and getting on the first page of Google within 24 hours. This feels like the old days when you could bookmark something with Digg and your Digg link would be at the top of Google for your new content.
The redesigned site is about a month old now. I'm gradually doing 301 redirects on old articles where appropriate, have a custom 401 error page explaining the site has been redesigned. I had expected the site to be trashed but Google is giving massive oral love to everything I'm posting for the moment.
Will this last, do you think? The ONLY factor that seems to be working in my favor is the age of the domain and the fact that for a brief period around 2004 to 2006 it was pretty regularly updated. At one point it had a page rank of 5, then I stupidly sold some links on it and pagerank went down. It's holding at a 3 now.
Anyway if you have really old domains it might be worth throwing shit on them again on a daily basis in Wordpress (I love preloading content in advance and scheduling it to automatically update.) Might get a little of your lost Google love back.
