I got a mobile content violation last summer for a ringtone LP so that ad is disabled. But all the others in the campaign are still receiving traffic. Do you think it is risky to keep these running? Should I shut it down? Do people get banned for that?

Thanks,

Jon

Normally I would have to change the ad up a bit and see if it is allowed or not. From time to time I get an ad disapproved on my ringtone campaigns and all I do is change a word or take out some punctuation or add a price in the ad and it is approved quickly.

I have had sites unrelated to mobile content dropped from adwords campaigns, just for having ringtone affiliate links on the page. The conversations with the adwords reps are mind blowing. Google is erring on the side of caution to the extent that any music site with ringtones links on it can't advertise.

Amen to that!
I get more and more pissed for every time I have to deal with those morons.

They are becoming total nazis when it comes to "mobile content" these days. Last year I could get stuff approved when using a lander that:
1) clearly showed the subscription price and duration
2) had a mandatory opt-in checkbox ("confirm you have read our shitty TOS, blah blah blah") before sending the clicker to the offer

They accepted that and I got good QS along with positions 1-3 and good traffic all throughout the content network.

Now is a different story. Every mobile campaign I have submitted so far is not being approved - using the same ass-kissing landing page they liked in november!

Their reasoning for this now?
You MUST now have the opt-in checkbox on the same page as where the visitor enters their phone number. In other words - unless you're running a whitelabel and control this yourself, your offer better have this checkbox on it or you can forget about using a landing page (like a carrier page) beforehand.

This eliminates pretty much all decent crush/iq offers I have seen. None of them offer a Google compliant page and you can't even run them using a landing page, since your LP cannot have the checkbox on it either...

The catch 22 on the #2 requirement is that the landing page from the link on my site HAS the opt-in check box. Yet they keep dinging me for not having an opt in from the landing page, even though no information is collected on the first page.

Ironically, I'm not even trying to sell ringtones. I'm just trying to promote my website.

Now the decision is coming down to removing ringtone affiliate stuff entirely from my site or completely ruining my user experience on my music site. Totally absurd.

I know. I don't have a problem following meaningful guidelines/policies, but this shit is getting old really quick. They're meaningless, non-consistent, and do not make sense from a so-called "user experience" perspective.

And I can tell you from my own experience this isn't only the case in the US, but all over the world. It's crazy to get something ringtone related approved.

However, for some weird reason, one of my campaigns in a certain country is still live (for 5 months now). The LP is NOT google compliant (without the checkbox) so it's needless to say I'm still banking big on this. Don't ask me how I did it because I have no clue either. If I try to add new ads to this campaign they will get disapproved quickly, but the other ones keep running. Lucky?
