Once again Google is releasing another cellphone. However, their arrogant attitude of thinking that their brand name will market itself is a total failure. What happen to intensive marketing to stimulate hype for this new phone? Apparently this phone is being release this month.

Samsung Nexus S Release Date & Price: $199, Dec 16

Nexus S ? The new Android phone from Google

At least they realize that their ability at making cellphone sucks. I hope by working with Samsung that they have a product that will last more than 6 months before becoming a complete failure.

Will this be WIN or a FAIL?

you provided zero reason/sources to support your claim that the phone is a "failure"

iPhone 4 vs Nexus 1

The nexus one was out 6 months before the iPhone, so back then it was a crazy fast phone. But yet the iphone had people waiting in lines and pre-orders sold out. Most people don't even know the nexus one exists, meanwhile hardware wise it's almost the same phone.

This phone has almost the same marketing as before. Samsung has their line of phones they're going to promote[on all 4 major networks], who's promoting this?

My apology for not providing adequate sources....here some article...read them if you want to waste time..lol

Marketing strategy taking from Google Annual Report.

Our user base has grown primarily by word-of-mouth. Our early marketing efforts focused on feeding this word-of-mouth momentum and used public relations efforts to accelerate it. Through these efforts and people’s increased usage of Google worldwide, we have been able to build our brand with relatively low marketing costs as a percentage of our revenues.
Also by looking at Yahoo (21%) and Google (8%) marketing expense in their annual report you can see that Google focus less on marketing than their competitor. Of course these percentage is the proportion of their sale/marketing expense to total 2009 revenue. Google has a strong brand but i think if they do not increase marketing to any of their new acquire product lines than the likelihood of it becoming a success is very small. Not every product Google offer is a winner.

I just found out that Nexus S is coming out this month and it amaze me that I didn't see an ad for it anywhere. From my knowledge of Google past marketing blunder, this new phone could be in the same boat as Nexus One. Beside who launches a new cellphone with T-mobile. ATT and Verizon would be a better choice. Also the unlock price ($529) is going to be a killer for anyone who want to purchase it without a contract.

I was not really trying to say that the new Google Nexus S will fail, but rather asking for the opinions of other on the subject.

Win or Fail?

while Nexus one failed, Android's market share is growing really fast.

Also appears to be leveling out on it's growth rate.

Google isn't really trying to push the Nexus series phones, they're just created as an atypical Android device for their programmers to develop on, correlating with each major version. Though there is a graph I'd like to see, marketing dollars spent per devices sold, comparing the iPhone to the Nexus phones.

Also nice chart roclafamilia, there's no reason I'd question the numbers on a chart published by AppleInsider.com. Maybe try citing stats from a reputable analytics organization such as Nielsen?

i just watched the nexus video, it sucks however I like the price point on the phone so my get my wife this when I'm state side later this month.

I've owned the N1 since it came out in January. Best phone I ever had. You also seem to have no idea about the fact that Google didn't built the N1. They did very well realize that they aren't able to do so alone and outsourced the whole development and manufacturing of the phone to HTC.

what stopped the N1 was Google not supporting their phone (just like anything else, google won't fucking let you talk to someone). they finally got the message and had people call HTC for tech support.

You are an idiot if you think the Nexus One was a failure.

It paved the way and started a standard for the amazing hardware and applications you are seeing in the other Android phones today, as well as non-Android phones.

Nexus S sounds badass so far, just wish it had a keyboard.

After having my Samsung Galaxy S for a few months, I can now enter messages way faster with Swype than I ever could with a hardware keyboard.

If you look at why it slowed, it's in relation to people getting an iPad.

Most everyone I see walking around now either has an Android phone or an iPhone. It's usually the Android, since as people's contracts come up for renewal, they swap to an Android to try out a smart phone instead of just getting one of those cheap free phones that cell carriers usually push on people since they can now do so for nearly the same price.

Those same people probably spent the money they would have to try out the iPad instead of rushing off to upgrade their phone. Watch the numbers by February and you'll see Android rising sharply again.

I have Swype too, but I still pull out the keyboard on my first gen Droid when I need to type something quick.

I agree G has done a horrible job in their marketing efforts. This is the first I have heard of the phone. It's pathetic compared to how Apple market's their stuff. They need to either stick to what they know more or go buy a company that can do the job for them.

I'd say it's more about Verizon's lack of android promotion lately. When the original droid came out, they spent a lot of money on promotion, droid incredible, droid X and droid 2, but it's been a few months since anything's come out so they're not really promoting anything. The droid pro seems like a decent phone but there's been very limited marketing behind that.

Also, Verizon iPhone would sure kill a huge percentage of android sales too.
