Why Google's new music service might actually work - May. 15, 2013

Giving it a whirl now. I consider the day I discovered Spotify a kind of personal national holiday, so I'm definitely trying this out.

I don't get it. The article you linked to basically says that spotify is better than the google offering and that google still has a chance to gain marketshare purely because users are so familiar with android.

Why on earth would you switch?

The problem with all of these music services is that they are horribly unprofitable. The Spotify CEO has explicitly stated he doesn't care about profit right now, only growth. Meanwhile, they've burned through hundreds of millions in VC, all for licensing fees.

Google has a lot of firepower so they can afford shit like this, but what a terrible market to be in.

I would switch if it were a better product. Simple.

Speaking of which, after playing around with it for a while, sadly it's not. Lack of iOS functionality is pretty much a deal breaker for me.
