Nice Norb. A few questions about your setup:
1) How large of a room is that? I'm thinking about getting a nice condominium next year, and I do recording myself, and I was hoping to get a nicely soundproofed studio built, but I don't want a room too small or too large.
2) How much and what kind of soundproofing did you use on your walls? I love the checkerboard-style setup you've got going on, I just want to make sure I go with something that will honestly work before gluing $700 worth of foam on my walls.

1) It's about 15x15. However you have to take into consideration what materials the condo has used - i.e. drywall vs. concrete, hardwood vs. carpet, how thick the walls/ceiling/floor are (condo's generally suck for studios but they aren't impossible to work with). It's not really 'sound proofed' as much as it's 'treated' - the foam on the walls does an amazing job at dampening sound for recording but it won't necessarily make the room itself soundproof from your neighbors.
2) ebay 'foam factory' I spent $1000 and it was enough to do two rooms and a full vocal booth (completely covered). One room would have been about $500 (my main room is bigger than the second). Also - in a condo you might consider much thicker foam, perhaps more coverage on the walls, THICK carpet, hang thick sheets diagonally from your ceiling to your walls all the way around you, some bass traps, etc etc so you REALLY treat the room and reduce as much noise as you can. The loudest thing in here right now is my PC, and it's an aftermarket custom job with coolers etc. but still loud because the room is treated so well

congrats and awesome setup! Was definitely worth all that work you put into it. Curious, what sequencer on your computer do you use to record with your motif?
Thanks - I'm a Steinberg kinda guy. Have messed with them all though and when I had a mac it was logic all the way. Pro tools would be my next choice now though but I'm wayyyyy too far down the cubase hole to turn back and frankly I love it/wouldn't want to switch or re-learn anything as my quality/mastering is top shelf lately. The Motif does wonders but I still rarely use only the sounds within it, and still mostly buy or make my own custom kits to make my pieces truly unique.
I didn't win anything or get a nicknack (sp?) from this but it's cool just having someone notice/like it enough to feature it so yeah I'm enjoying the lil' boost today and am reminded of what I built even though I'm sitting in it right now
