You know, I was a little paranoid about martial law and FEMA camps and the UN invading when I first saw some videos on it, too... way back in the early-mid 90s. Yep, first it was Clinton that was going to declare martial law, then GW Bush, now Obama. Just you wait! I'm sure there's a bunch of camo-wearing patriots up in Michigan ready to drop everything at a moments notice, grab their bugout kits, and head up into the woods. Must be a great way to have spent the last 20 years... always looking over your shoulder, peering up at black helicopters and chemtrails.

I'm sure Alex Jones and his ilk will keep milking people's paranoid fantasies for all they're worth for a long time to come.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are gonna get on with our lives.

There's a middle ground between being completely fucking paranoid and completely fucking mindless and trusting of the state.

Equipping yourself with a few weapons, along with knowledge of how the state operates would fall between the two. And it's also the minimum at which every citizen needs to be prepared, imo.

You're assuming the people in charge 1) care about producing value 2) are thinking logically.

surely. Like the soldiers that enforced the 3rd reich. Or the soldiers that enforced the great leap forward. Or the soldiers in Burma. The soldiers that enforced the USSR. The soldiers that run North Korea.

To name just a few recent examples of the military happily killing their own.

police are, for the most, part all pieces of shit who'd jump at the chance to lock citizens up and get even more power for themselves. military would probably be 50/50.
