If you want to guarantee yourself $1,000,000 in cash (which currency, who fucking knows...) then do this:

Find a few truly innovative ways to disperse heat from data centers.

Configure a system to capture, or disperse, or reuse the heat from servers, make it scalable, economical, and extremely agile.

Lots of firms/folks are doing this same thing now, but find some really ingenious way to do it better, whore the idea to anyone/everyone, and about the 2009 mark, you'll be in a position with some experience and really market the hell out of the idea. 2011, everyone copies you and you're just another joe.

Just sayin. Find the article about the guys who use the NOC heat to warm the pool, it's pretty good.

No one is really doing this now, excellent risk and low barriers to entry.

Heat causes guys to sweat
Sweat turns girls off
When girls are turned off they go away
With all the girls away the guys can focus
When guys can focus they are better at solving problems
When guys are good at solving problems they can all get together and easily figure something out.
With all the guys in the world readily focused and using their combined brain power they can solve the problem of why this thread was created.
If they can figure out why it was created than they can figure out a way to stop it from ever happening again.
If they can stop it from ever happening again than people like you can spend their trolling time figuring out what to do with excess heat from datacenters instead of creating dumb threads like this.
With people like you all packed away in hot datacenters the rest of us can be happier.
With the rest of the world happy there is less wars.
With less wars there is more peace.

I honestly see the best solution being a liquid cooling setup.
Not some home kit, like you get from CoolMaster either... I mean getting a certified plumber that's worked on something like this before.
Or a hydro-engineer that's worked on a beer piping system.
PVC pipes all properly cut to size, sealed together with water resistant rubberized adhesives, etc.

Actually, that would be a better option.
I know of bars that have beer being piped to 3 different sets of taps, it comes out ice cold, and it's all coming from one set of kegs in the basement.
A system like that, that recycles the liquid (some sort of water loaded with a sodium or polymer based compound would probably work better than plain H20) would work perfectly, and take up a lot less electricity than air conditioning as you only need pumps.

Then you could grow a moustache, go to large corporate buildings and say to the hot receptionist "I have come to put my rubber in your pipes".
Makes me think maybe I should become a tradie ;)
 
industrial engineers have been building waste heat recycling systems and innovative cooling systems in large factories for years...

some of the neatest that I've seen are boilers that are run on waste heat...

but the heat a large data center produces is tiny in comparison to the output at even a small factory... so, I doubt it'd be cost effective to build any kind of specialized heat recycling or complex cooling system for a data center... at least not when standard commercial air conditioner and cooling units will still get the job done at a fraction of the cost of a specialized system...
 
Liquid cooling with modular server racks and cases is the key. Make the whole system a loop that cycles the water underground to bleed off the excess heat.
 
Some of the data and computing centers here use the waste heat to heat complete buidlings in the cold months.

So... this has been thought of already.

Didn't Google plan on sinking an entire data center in the sea, just off an island that they were going to buy?
