The criminals who bought the domains convinced the indexing software used by Google, MSN and Yahoo they were good and popular sources of information, said Mr Eckelberry.

Although the results were indexed by Yahoo and MSN the webpages were coded to only show up if someone used Google. They accomplished this using comment spam on blogs to push the pages up the search index rankings.

So, maybe google bowling really isn't dead, afterall. :D

That's OK. I never really believed it was anyway. Since the google is so hypocritical about everything else, why should anyone believe anything they say?

I believe, in my own little imaginary world, that the google is still running on mid 90's technology and all their glitz and glitter is just smoke and mirrors to keep their stock prices up.

Wow! So where did they all get the list of blogs without nofollow ?

we take for granted how oblivious the non-web industry is and how they have zero knowledge of "upper echelon" practices. in fact most webmasters fit into this group as well. for crying out loud, blog comment submitting gets you onto bbc?

I love stories like this. It makes me giggle all over.

"Silly WH SEO's, search engine spam is for smart people!"
