hi everyone, i'm not really a newbie at this game, but i'm gonna try to get my little brother (he's 15 and not really a blood brother btw) involved in this and i was wondering what i should have him learn. i know html, css, javascript, php, mysql, apache, xml, rss and what i'm gonna have him learn to begin. as far as seo, the only real seo i know is the basic link building and to create networks of sites.

is there anything else that i can have him learn, as well as myself to be able to rank well in the search engines and make money?

Dude this is the wrong forum to be asking such silly questions. Just browse around and use the Search Button.

At best I would suggest that you look at Aaron Walls' SEOBOOK to gain some ideas for SEO. If you are able to teach him the various areas which you mentioned, than he should be way ahead of the game.

Just have him read everything. The nature of this game is that things are constantly shifting, and you need to be up on changes. If you develop his technical skill and he keeps current, he should have a fighting chance.

SEO, PHP, HTML, YADA YADA.

He needs to learn the basics of human behavior and sales skills . You can know all the SEO, PHP in the world but if you don't know why people do what they do and how to close sales then he'll never make it. We are saleman and marketers first and computer geeks last.

He may build a nice website though!

Are you sure he wants to get involved in this though? When I was 15 I think I would have preferred skirt-chasing and getting in trouble.

that's what we're starting on. the sales part i'm still learning myself and btw, i'm first a computer geek and then everything else second and he's not much of a pick up artist lol

Agreed. I can make freelance money coding ASM/C/Rails/etc but I still consider this work. You need to focus on human behavior. Watch newbs and average people use the Internet and think about how you can provide a service for them, or exploit their actions for money.

The lame thing about being a geek is that we tend to take things for granted. For example, we never click ads, and Iwas shocked when I discovered SEO and realized that people are making this much money off ads alone. I also never visit sites that aren't reputable, because over 10 years of using the net, I memorized most sources and use my own tools and etc. I mainly use Google as a spell checker and calculator, more than anything.

If your bro are in it for the money, then I'd focus more on learning the basics of business, stock, economics, marketing, etc... that + geek skills = $$$
