I was just contacted by Oprah's lawyer for linking to youtube videos from a recent show. The only reference to Oprah on the site were those linked youtube videos.

Those of you running landers with much more blatant references, images, domain, ect might want to redo your shit. Just a heads up, I know some of you are going way way past where I was.


On the plus side looks like im in the SERPS.....

It's not so much your issue as it is youtubes, as your not actually hosting the video. Still don't blame you for taking it down.

Thing with Harpo is, even if your legally in the clear, who wants to mess with a bunch of highly paid lawyers that at the very least can drown you in legal bills.

My name is xxxxxx and I am a member of the company that owns xxxx.com . That website which you have referred does not host any elements related to Harpo's Inc or Oprah Winfrey. It does link to videos hosted by youtube.com containing clips from the Oprah Winfrey show talking about xxxxx that xxxxx is advertersing.

While I believe your concern would be directly with youtube.com for removal of these videos (since again they are hosted on youtube.comhttp://youtube.com/ and are not hosted on xxxx.com ), in the interest of avoiding issues with your clients, we will immediately unlink any videos related to Oprah Winfrey.

And it was by email (private reg who are you) but i verified the return address.
 
Damn that sucks...

I had more Oprah and Dr. Oz stuff than any competitor I'd seen yet. Looks Like I'm gonna have to delete that shit.

Hopefully Barbara Walters doesn't have a D-bag lawyer like Oprah : )
 
According to the lawyer, by exhibiting (embedding) them on the site my company would be jointly responsible for a copyright violation. I have removed all references and they seem to be ok with that. Just a warning, my site is very new, they are probably using google alerts so if you are doing this or much worse, STOP.

I realize some of you also are fucked because of your choice of domain names (while reading the emails in gmail, the sidebar ads and subsequent landers were hilarious and I know exactly why they are cracking down).
