Ranitidine Drug and its Side Effects
Ranitidine is a drug group called histamine-2 blockers. It is a drug taken by people who have stomach problems. These include those who have ulcers and stomach acid problems. Ranitidine helps lower the amount of acid produced by the stomach therefore protecting the stomach walls from digesting. It also treats peptic ulcer disease or PUD and heartburn or technically called gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD. It is also used in treating skin conditions such as hives along with other drugs.
Certain concentrations of ranitidine are available in pharmacies over the counter. These are just for small complications so prescription is not really required. They are available commonly in 75mg, 150mg and 300mg tablets. There are also liquid ranitidine which can be administered to children who also have stomach problems. But for those patients who have Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, a condition where the stomach produces too much acid, a 6000mg of ranitidine is harmless.
