Well I learned some things from the verbal castration of my black friday banner. So here is another one to shred to ribbons. Again if you don't hate it, feel free to use it. As expected I didn't get any commission but then again I just had my crappy banner up on two sites that got maybe 60 visits. If you could perchance give my some easy ways to possible manage at least one commission this monday it would be appreciated as well.

before you get flamed i'll just state the obvious and bestow you with some golden nuggets of wisdom, realizing that if you didn't do this in the first place the following may fall on deaf ears, however, you need to use the hostgator brand to maximum effect (no, half of the gator's distorted head at the bottom doesn't count) so that the viewer of your ad realizes this isn't some random shitty shared shared host plan from someone in cambodia as your ad's design would strongly suggest but is for a large and ostensibly professional organization with high standards and a serious reputation for quality. i mean think of using one of the porn site style mspaint 'GROW YOUR DICK' white backround big blue text ads for a financial sector service - sort of a discrepancy in aesthetic there. the plus side of mspaint style ghetto ads is that you often can jam a lot of text in them hence a lot of information, so if you can put in some persuasive copywriting into an ad like that you can overcome aesthetics and possibly successfully promote something like this or a lp with a more glossy feel in general

Eldarion,

I like the tagline, but that banner would only work if you were marketing to webmasters or people who already had some idea who hostgator was.

Of course you and I--or any other marketer for that matter--is going to know HG by name and logo, but to someone that is not already in the game, there is a good chance that they won't have a clue what that banner is actually advertising.

I would make an effort to at least put the word hosting on it somewhere.

Dude rule 1 of design. Squint your eyes and see what stands out. Your contrast of your message could really use some help. Color selection and font type needs a lot of work.

Looks like shit, will not click. I am not a pro, but would click on some white background banner with a small picture of hosting, gator and black friday text

use photoshop and use layer effects for the text (drop shadow, emboss, etc) and your banners will look 50000% better

Second and third does not look that bad + third one delivers the message of discount. I would make those -50% stand out even more. But its allright.

Well I'm just trying to incorporate the tips I'm getting, I'd much rather be told it sucks bites and swallows than to think it's good. Corporate logo, delivers information, color contrast that doesn't physically hurt to look at, have most important bits stick out, not devoid of color. I am limited in the tools I have at my disposal. I don't use or for that matter have ever used photoshop. I use sony vegas to put the banners together, and for some things I used gimp. I'll try making one more, maybe start from scratch. Then I'll just maybe tweak the one a little that got the least hate and use that today.

shit actually it's started all ready so I'm just gonna have to roll with one of these probably the last one. But anyway here it is.

good job, your best yet, although having so many different typefaces disrupts the coherency of the banner. i'd suggest experimenting with some layer/text effects in gimp for future banners

I don't disagree, it does look like a cluster fuck. I'm not that adept with gimp but I will play around with it more.

no offense but I think you are wasting to much time working on your banners that honestly dont look that good.... try to grab some pre-design banners from CJ or other source and then just promote them instead of wasting days working on banners that just dont cut it and look like you designed them with paint.

But this is how you get better at design. By trying, failing, and learning. Designers aren't born knowing how to design amazing banners.
