How do I use the internet to sell diamonds?

Heya guys,
I'm not sure if this is the right section to post in but WTH, mods please move the thread if required.

I'll keep it short and simple:
I'm mainly into diamonds, that's the family business.
They call it Diamond manufacturing in the industry but I'm not too sure if it is an appropriate word.
Well, business isn't doing so well currently and I thought of using the internet to get some global business since the market for diamonds and diamond jewelry is pretty huge.

I've also noticed that the price difference is pretty huge and I could make some nice profit margins.
We are mainly into "manufacturing" diamonds, it includes everything from getting the diamonds from mines till they get pushed into jewelry.
We sell loose diamonds as well as diamond jewelry.

Now I request you guys to be nice enough to shed some light on whether this would sell there, and how do I sell 'em? (B2B forums? Contact Jewelry manufacturers, have a website that sells engagement rings? Round you Aff marketers up and make you sell my stuff for commission? What?)

I don't know of many affiliate programs (DeBeers, Wedding Sites, etc) so an affiliate program may be something feasible but you would have to architect the sales channel for optimum sales and customer flow or you could run into problems.

Diamonds are an area of high-specialty so I'm way out of my league in that area but I would think you would have to put protections in place to combat fraud and customer satisfaction issues.
 
Well having a website would be good, but then you would have to convince others that you actually are the real deal. If you can get it done, a fool will soon be parted with his money.

Build a content portal for the industry if you can't find someone already doing this (global lead generation via ecomm site) in the gemstone business (precious and semi-precious) to emulate.

I'm sure you know, nearly all gemstone transactions are conducted face to face.

DO research on ice.com - they were featured in fastcompany or Inc and have a pretty kick-ass Affiliate program on linkshare iirc. Plus there may be some more - give me a phonecall tomorrow (I think I gave you my number earlier) and I could discuss some ideas I gathered from a few of my jewelery exporter friends here.

Dude - I'm also mainly into stones, but I tend to stear clear of the big 4 (diamond, ruby, sapphire, emerald) and concentrate on the semi precious stuff. I do however know that there is big demand online for loose diamonds at good prices (I live in South Africa and so know more than most about the supply end of diamonds!) , and not alot of competition... unlike jewelry where every small time gem cutter in the East has 12 sites and 6 Ebay accounts!

Do your basic keyword research and slap up an e-com site selling loose stones.

BTW - I have an opt in list of about 2000 from my gem, mineral and crystal site. They mostly buy lower end stuff off me but maybe we can JV on something. PM if you have any ideas.
