$200.. down the drain. I thought there would be enough alcoholics or at least college students in this country to at least turn my facebook bucks into cash. I was wrong.

This is the ad I was running..

Make Beer At Home

You can make beer at home. Easily. Try it now. You have no idea what you are missing.

1,000,000 impressions....$200
310 clicks.... $200
experience... worthless

Love Draft Beer? Get it at home!

that doesn't seam very relevant to the products you are selling.

That's actually the affiliate company's copy. I was lazy and ripped it straight off a banner ad they have.

Just curious did you target 21+? You mentioned college kids, but looks like FB TOS does allow alcohol ads but just to 21+. Wondering if you were able to get that through.

Also sounds like that's a 'cc required' offer (they buy the beer kit right?) which perform horribly in my experience on FB.

picture of a dude w/ mustache?! wtf?! seriously - a pic of a crazy kegger w/ coeds

I think its against FB TOS now, otherwise mos def..

You're right.. I was marketing to 5th and 6th years :)

Yep, they sell beer brewing kits and paraphenalia.. and $2000 Guiness fridges... sweet

FrankE I ask you please don't make grand sweeping statements like that. Because FB users do pull out their CC's for the right offer. And by someone reading they don't prohibits them from trying things that might work. As I said above most pps don't work. But their is somethings that do. PPL is easier.

I highly highly suggest the same thing I'd suggest for ANYTHING. Go see what other people are running. Make an account in each demographic type and then see what ads are shown to you. Do that for a weeks time watching for ads you see multiple times. If they keep running it the ad and the offer must work.... that's a good place to start.

That's good to hear. Maybe I will give it a try if I see a good offer and demo.

It sounds like the original poster may have had a product that didn't match, an ad that didn't work and possibly a flawed strategy (CPM instead of CPC). I also think that if one is going to get scared off over losing $200 to find out a niche isn't working, maybe affiliate marketing isn't the right thing for that person.

People are motivated by two things typically.

1. Pain
2. Pleasure

People that are in pain are much more motivated then those seeking pleasure. Lets take your teeth for example.

Scenario 1
Your teeth are dingy from all that coffee you drink and you'd like to look good for some chick or event or whatever. You go to the dentist and they say yeah I can whiten you teeth, that will be $300. So you decide to think about if you really need it that badly. Hell maybe your teeth are ok? So you talk yourself out of it and move on.

Scenario 2.
Your back right molar is starts to throb in pain all of a sudden. So you wait a bit and as the hours go on it hurts more and more. So you decide to go into the dental office and get it looked at. The dentist takes some x-ray's and says you need a root canal. That's going to be $1200. Do you hesitate to buy?

People in pain are always more motivated. In this scenario it was physical pain, but mental pain can be just as anguishing. The classic keeping up with the Joneses scenario like people feel like they are falling behind that pack very motivating. People that are over weight being called fat a bunch of times and looking in the mirror and feeling like shit. Motivated?

I know it's kind of sad scenario honestly but unfortunately it's the truth. If you can speak to peoples pain you'll sell stuff...

I mean honestly how are you feeling about your Facebook skills right now, this_web? Think you're good at this stuff? You just blew through $200, so you're probably now feeling like this may not be for you huh? Stop and imagine that was your own $200. Probably feels even worse doesn't it? If I had a report I that would tell you a step by step tutorial exactly how to make money with Facebook... would you buy it?

Haha well I don't have one just wanted you to feel what it's like to have that pain and then me offering up the answer. Did you feel it?

This one post is worth a fortune. Excellent advice Smaxor.

So you were paying roughly .65 per click (.65x310=201.5) for that PPS offer? I don't see why you would be bidding so much.. and you failed to show any other tracking stats. Maybe your landing page was lacking, or maybe the actual offer itself wasn't worth it.

Just curious, what was the payout for a sale on that offer?

He used the "free advertising" it is hard to switch it up if you just start out and get to lower the cpc.

Not only that, besides the moustache pic, but I never do CPM until testing CPC's CTR first. If you can get a .08 to .10 CTR then switch over to CPM as you'll get cheaper clicks. CPM is retarded with a low CTR.

Captain Obvious maybe, or maybe not. ;)

That would be a tough product to push on Facebook users. Most Facebook users won't buy anything. When people are on Facebook, they're kind of in a frivolous mindset, (playing with vampire or poo flinging applications) so you need a frivolous campaign to make any money.

That said, if you ever wanted to try it again, definitely play with targeting. Hit just males 25+, maybe even 30+. You could also try hitting booze related keywords. It would make your target audience really small, but you'd also weed out lots of useless clicks.
