I see that a lot of the big networks are streaming full episodes with 30 sec commercials in the show. How much money do you think they get off this?

I suspect they are losing money at this point.... don't really know. My partners wife works for the Martin Advertising Agency and they are (if I understand right) having issues still serving up traditional advertising on-line.

The reason is that in real life each time a commercial is shown the voices and people in commercials get paid.... sort of like use putting up a CPM banner.

Whoever programs the tracking technology that gets adopted by the industry is probably going to be rich.

Your best bet would be to research the Writers strike a little bit, I'm sure the average info is featured in some of those articles.

I agree with stmadeveloper - I don't think they're making much at all. I'd imagine its tacked on to existing advertising agreements as a perk or test bed.

i read that the writers don't get any kickbacks from the online shows, which is just one of the reasons they are striking. i used to watch the office on nbc but they have removed all of the eps :(

They make bank. There are already big players tracking video Ads and plenty of startups in on the action too.

Some types of Ads, brand or product awareness, are simpler to track ( they tend to be how many eyeballs saw the ad and effectiveness tracked via polling or overall sales impact ), the other is action based ads, which is what most of us are doing ( PPC ), where you know immediately how effective your Ad is because someone clicked.

The awareness Ads simply need eyeballs and tend to be an impression based cost basis. Usually a high one for TV shows since they pretty much know the demographic you can target based on the content of the show.

Right, we all agree that regular TV ads make bank, but what about these online ones? Online replays, for instance. If you think "they make bank" - could you back that up with something somewhere?

I'm curious, and I'll believe you if you can show something that demonstrates proof. But from what I've come to understand, the major networks are having a very hard time finding the appropriate revenue model for these shows.

releasing old eps worked for me, thats how i started watching the shows i do now is from not being able to sleep at night and i go online and look for new shows to watch, plus it's nice when they have a full season online and you can watch it all at once. there is really no need for me to even own a tv at this point except to play xbox :D

Back when we didn't have cable or satellite for a year, I would download whole seasons of shows and my wife and I would turn into real couch potatoes sometimes when we really got into the shows. We'd sit down at night and watch 4-6 episodes of something, easy. No commercials... yummy.
