How much does Shoemoney pay Dillsmack?

Okay, okay... I don't really care how much $$ Dillsmack makes. What I'm wondering is what it takes an Internet marketer to find and retain an excellent programmer without having him run off with all of your 'secrets', and the Shoemoney + Dillsmack combo is the perfect example.

Dave (Dillsmack) could probably go and make lots of money on his own....but he's been working with Jeremy for quite a while now. So what keeps him there? Lots of money? A non-complete clause in his employment contract?

I'm at the stage now where I want to expand by stepping back a little bit from the technical role and letting someone else do that work while I focus on higher level business activities. I have enough techie work to keep someone busy full time.

Maybe any of you guys that have been in my shoes before can offer some tips?
 


I have found that alot of really solid programmers really don't have the mindset to want to run off with your methods and make their fortune.. They are more interested in programming for programming's sake than marketing. But almost everyone has that fear when they wanna hire programmers and I think the benefit far outweighs the potential for being cornholed by a programmer with big dreams..
 
if you share the booty, give the man his due credit. I dont think a silly clause would be the reason for him to stick around.

Sometimes you reach a point wen all ur needs are met by ur earnings, so things like comfort, satisfaction, friendship comes into play

regarding ur point of moving away from development, i would suggest u do it gradually as if u get hasty about it, u mite give ur work to the best programmer, u kno, but it still wont be exactly to ur liking. So u need to work together to get to a point where he/she doesnt need to be told wat to do and still delivers wat u expect from him/her. Patience is also very important here, u need to increase his/her responsibilities gradually until he's prepared to take over your work completely.
 
shoemoney hired him bc they are related or something... but why would you want to work with an asshole... get an indian and boss his ass around 24/7.

because in the amount of time you communicate your spec to someone offshore, you could have finished it yourself and done a round of bug fixes + feature requests.

hahaha, u're under a misconception, u cant own my ass. I was working with a company which had a outsourced job from a fortune 50 company, i kinda got ppl with this mind set and boy o boy, u should ask them how i kicked their ass all over the place for unreasonable demands.

i hate off-shoring or outsourcing as much as any1 whos lost a job becus of this exact same reason but it gets me money so cant complain much:D

@jened, i agree with u, so u gotta do extremely critical stuff there and less critical stuff outsourced. Consider this, u pay a programmer 3000-4000$ per month for a project which mite run into 3 months making it around to 9000-12000$, u pay half of this price to any SMB company and would accept it with both arms completing the project much bfore this guy would do. I have been pretty modest with the cost of a programmer to a company it would certainly be much higher and cost saving a lot more if outsourced.

It depends on your project, or projects, if its one huge project or a half decent one where you don't want any single programmer running off with your whole idea, do your best to break it off in chuncks and get each on programmed seperately, no single person will know what the end result will be but all of them will have a part in it.

Its just like the bank security systems, no single person created it, it was created by several hundred or several thousand different people who are never allowed to talk to each other, this enables for a working system that no one can crack and it keeps you safe.

Of course its not always a logical choice, some projects cannot be done in this manner and others are just too small to even consider doing it but the final choice is finding someone you trust before you upload them all of your work, give them little chuncks here and their and build trust with them, and then make your final choice.

I've never contracted out a whole lot of programming work in the past because I do all my web development stuff myself, and I'm a decent programmer when it comes to knowing what I need done.

However I've never had a problem with other programmers trying to scam me, nor have I heard of any real horror stories.
 
Is this where I take the opportunity to post my resume?? LOL.

I'm sure Dillsmack gets paid well. And working from home is a very very nice bonus that I myself would have a hard time giving up.
 
Outsourced programmers usually don't have an interest in marketing, at all. They are too busy programming! Just my experiences.
 
the programmers that i know won't outsource their programming projects cuz they hate other programmer's code... nobody likes another programmer's style
 
yeah some programmers just love programming- and making $$$ comes in 2nd place. I know one guy who is a genius programmer - works on developing very complex AI applications, genetic algorithms, things I have no clue what they even are, etc. I'm sure he could start some business on his own and make a fortune- but he has no desire to do anything than write code all day.

ANother guy I know is an expert database programmer - but had no clue how people monetize websites until I started explaining arbi to him... he really just had never thought about it before!
 
It is INCREDIBLY hard to find programmers/designers that do good work, communicate well, have brains, and finish on time. If they have been together for awhile I am sure he is making pretty good cash.
 
Don't ever get fooled by the "programmers just wanna program, not make any $$" mindset.

Even though a lot of coders just love coding for the sake of it, they'll notice their poor wage in comparison to your dough.

And even though I have not been cheated by a greedy programmer, I was immediate witness to a coder ripping off his boss.

Easy solution: Don't be an asshole and pay your programmers as well as you can afford. Best solution: % of profits. (Also a great motivational boost)

Well being a programmer here are my rates.

For web programming: Perl/PHP/ASP

30-40$/h Ground up projects. Minimum 5 hour block.

40+$/h Hacking functionality into existing projects that I didn't originally have a hand in designing. This is hard to quote but it depends on the size of the original project and how long it will take me to review the code.
