Has anyone made any "real" money with their iPhone Apps? Would forum members who have somewhat tried to cash in on the iPhone Apps craze answer the questions below, so the rest of the forum members who are groping in the dark get some idea as to what really is going on? We run a popular iPhone Training Program - and we're constantly bombarded with questions. Since we do have limitations in publishing a large number of apps on the appstore, we'd appreciate some sort of collective feedback on the questions below -

(a) Total time in months/years that you have been dabbling in the iPhone development space

(b) Number of Apps you have officially released on the App store

(c) Average revenues you have earned in total for each app and total revenues you have earned. No need to disclose your actual application / game name - just share the numbers.

(d) Major hurdles you have faced with iPhone development (lack of resources, training, ebooks and information online).

Thanks, and we hope the responses shed some light on the truth, for all developers, newbies and those still thinking of jumping on board.

I turned my PC into a dual boot hackintosh to try and get into iPhone dev. However, when I tried to install xcode with the iphone SDK, it said I needed to upgrade OSX. When I tried to upgrade OSX, my hackintosh stopped booting. I was in the process of doing a fresh install of the needed OSX version when I came across a messageboard that said when you start doing dev on your iphone, you basically put it in a state where it is no longer viable to use as a real 'consumer' iphone (not even sure how true this really is). This discouraged me a bit, but I was still curious. Then, a friend reminded me that hooking my iphone up to a hackintosh could very well screw it up. That made sense.

So, bottom line for me........if one didn't have to have mac hardware to develop iphone apps, I would have probably entered that arena. However, I do understand why Apple limits it to their own hardware from a business standponit.
