How the hell do I increase member sign-up to my forum!

Make 5 fake accounts and have them each make at least 15 posts or so. Then run a contest of some sort for $50 amazon gift certificate or something and promote your contest on adwords. The first couple months you'll probably lose money with a brand new forum but look at it as making an investment that will pay dividends down the road.

Alright I have been reading a lot of articles and all that other bullshit and after selling off my gaming forum I decided to create a new one. Talkhistory.net, Now It has been open for about 3 days now and I only have 3 registered members! One of which is my friend! I have tired myspace bullitens and advertising in forums related to my subject but this is just not working. I even have a members only download section for e-books and a gallery and shop to promote interest.

Now if anyone can give me good advice I would be very happy and greatful. :bigear:

not sure about history but once I had a problem with the owner of a music forum so I went out and harvested email addresses from all archives I could find on the net. got a huge number.
then I sent out a heads up to everyone..

If the bait isn't stale, In a week you get your 1000 strong forum and nobody's gonna moan. Well you'll always get a winger or two. 99% will be "man I am glad I checked that old address, who did this and how?" Lol.
Historititetians might be harder than headbangers to please
