How to link to authority sites w/o bleeding juice?

Between today and tomorrow
So, I have a WP site with original content blah blah, and, if i was only thinking of the potential visitor/customer for a moment, I'd put a link from my new site to a real old established site that has tons more info on the topic than i would ever hope to have.

I am not too worried about a visitor hopping on the link - most of them will have visited that site before they get to me, anyway.

I am wondering about the wisdom/value to my site of having a link back to an authority site:

- I've heard anecdotes that it will build up my new site in g's all-seeing eye, but any real life experience with that?

As the anchor text, i'd just use the site name, so at least i wouldn't pass on any specific anchor text juice.

Thanks

Google wants to rank sites that are not endpoints, but rather hubs. A handful of outbound links aren't going to kill your link juice, and will most likely help your rankings a bit in the long run.

Just link to informational authorities rather than sites with offers/products where you could lose revenue

really? this could help me. I have a few sites selling single products that only link out to the offer page. Linking to other sites like wiki, etc. would help me?

thanks for any info.

authority outbound linking strategies are hardly a "nonissue"

I'm more referring to the overcontemplation of such a reasonable-sounding outbound link. Granted that OP's outbound links are relevant, more or less "natural", and not overdone, his outbound set definitely wouldn't "bleed juice". Counting hypothetical algorithmic beans is the wrong way to go about any linking strategy.

You should "actually" link out to Authority sites. Figuring out google is all guesswork, but I believe that what "you link out to" will help google categorize your site.

** Also when you own a few sites and you do some bit of interlinking within your sites, it seem to improve the Link Neighborhood profile..

Think of it this way:
You Homepage ranks for some keyword.
You link to your internal pages to pass some juice.
Say you pass out links to 20 Internal Pages.

SO each of your internal Pages get X/20 link Juice
By Linking out to a 21st Page, that is the Authority, Perhaps you reduce the Link Juice per page to X/21 which isn't much.... But the benefits of Linking to the Authority site will far outweigh the reduction in link juice..

Moreover, you you need some deeplinks anyway... So the this is not even a trade off.

Caveat: SEO is all guesswork. But I have tried various combinations, and these all all gut feel.

PS: I don't even remove the Powered by Wordpress link and Theme Owner link..
Don't be worrying too much unless you are linking out to Affiliate Offer pages "without cloaking".. There are many Filter Blogs that does nothing but links to news articles and they rank pretty well...
