I have a pop culture/ celebrity news website that has been up just under a year and usually gets pretty decent organic traffic (est. 1800-2200/day).

In the last two weeks, though, I have seen a HUGE spike in traffic because a few of my hosted images have propogated first or near the first in Google for celebrity names. Like, we're talking 1500 on Black Friday and 12000 yesterday alone. Today is set to do better than that. This is all completely organic, completely above-the-board, no PPC or other advertising. Avg. time on site is 1:03.

How do I monotenize this?

I'm with Copeac and A4D along with a few directs. The directs convert not at all and I am scraping less than 1% on the 'buttons' and 'banners' from Copeac and A4D. In my experience, these don't convert for shit. AdSense brings in some revenue, but I'm lucky if it goes over $15/day.

What is it that I am not doing?

I would appreciate any feedback at all... Strike while the iron's hot and all.

Well, don't run diet pills with pictures of said celebs... that'll get you raped.

there's a bunch of stuff you could put there. Doing some above board diet stuff will work because people reading BS celeb news and fat arses go together like pigs and literate spiders.
Alternatives:

  • Merchandise of said celebrity via Amazon or others
  • Amazon widget that picks up on celeb name as keyword and promotes appropriate product
  • Fashion items as worn by that celeb

Thanks Harvey. I'll try the Amazon idea... w/r/t clothing items, it's more difficult to isolate among the affiliate networks I'm with. Any leads to that end? Maybe a php bay dump for things like "Free City" sweatshirts (celeb casual couture du jour)?

Any other ideas / feedback are appreciated.
