How to REALLY optimize your site

Tobii: Market Research and Usability, Eye Tracking Hardware and Software

I used one of these eye-trackers for scientific research this past year, but they have software for them to do market research and placement of ads on sites. I know google has done this to find "hot zones", but agencies who really go in and scrape and optimize clients sites...worth a look.

eye tracking isn't really new tech though. we used that for website usability tests 9 years ago at the ad agency i worked at. put a tracking cam in a room next door to the user (who was unaware that it was watching them through a one-way mirror). not as precise as the new tech though.

it's just finally getting more affordable, and the APIs are way more open than they have been in the past. an eye tracker with TOBII, at least the ones we used, are around $20,000 as opposed to the $50,000+ they used to be. plus it's a lot more accurate nowadays
