htaccess authentication help

I'm using .htaccess and .htpasswd on my site for user authentication (admin area). The log-in access works perfectly in IE and Firefox, but not in Chrome. In Chrome, I am not even prompted for a username/password.

Any idea why this is? Is there a simple workaround?
