I use Google Webmaster tools to track my backlinks, not sure if that's the best way or not, but anyway I had about 1500 backlinks last week, and now it's showing 23k.

I ran a small SENukeX blast and created bout 1000 links, I have no idea how they turned into 23k. When I check Google Webmaster Tools it shows that some sites are sending me like 50-300 baclinks each, the only thing I can think is that I was listed in the "recent comments" tab and got hit on every page?

The site I am working on is a 2 year old domain, with a solid history of backlink building, am I at risk for getting hit by the panda update for such a quick jump in links?

Thanks guys.

A 2 year old domain.
I wouldn't worry about it. Also the Panda does not look at links. It is a content farm killer.

2 different things my friend.

Webmaster Tools is way off with backlink numbers, don't worry about it. I had a site where one week I had 500,000+ links next week only 23k and rankings went up :) They're totally unreliable. Use OSE or Majestic instead.

Well when a blog has a widget on its side bar for "Recent comments"

and you post a comment and it gets listed there, that one comment will turn into however many pages that particular blog has.

It's something like blogroll links or sitewide links

But I don't think it will affect your site too much though so nothing much to worry about I guess.

Thanks, this is what I figured happened when I checked a few of the links. Hopefully once my comments gets pushed out of that widget the backlinks will settle to the right amount.
