I'm looking to pick up some high volume exact match keyword domains - only problem is they aren't 100% exact match... I have to hyphenate them. I've seen some niches with the hyphenated domain clearly between the #1-#5 spot on G - however, wanted to see what kind of experience you guys have had with hyphenated keyword domains.

I have some hyphenated domains ranking high in google. So its ok to go after them if the non-hyphenated version isn't available

yeah i guess you are right, i should have searched.

on a side note, go fuck yourself

hahahahaha! Good one!

Most webmasters will say that hyphens in a domain name suck, but that is
because they can not remember them well.

I think hyphens will never hurt ranking, but might help.

Google is pretty good at stemming (separating the words), for example,
freecarinsurancequote.com. Google can separate those words easily.

But what happens when google sees:

buytriviagraphicsonline.com

Is that 'buy trivia graphics online' or 'buy tri viagra phics online'

The first would make more sense to us, but google is a machine.

Much better to be perfectly clear...

buy-tri-viagra-phics-online.com

Now there can be no mistake.

hyphens doesn't matter for ranking, I even heard some people say they're better since visitors can read and understand the domain name faster... check for yourself: whatagreatmarketingforum.com
