Got a not so good letter from Commission Junction today ....

"Your promotional methods have been identified in breach of the XYZ.com (“Advertiser”) Terms and Conditions, and/or the Commission Junction Publisher Service Agreement you agreed to follow, specifically in regards to the misuse of trademarks or copyrights.

Due to this breach, your affiliation with this Advertiser has been terminated. Pursuant to the Publisher Service Agreement, your commissions are being reviewed and transactions that were driven by non-compliant promotional methods may be charged-back (reversed) by the appropriate advertisers. Should Commission Junction discover the same or similar violations with other advertisers, your account is subject to deactivation."

I hope my whole account doesn't get terminated or I'm out thousands of dollars and seriously fucked.

Anyone been through this shit?

That happened to me once, but then they never actually terminated the affiliation and I was paid everything that I had earned. Not sure if it fell through the cracks, but I never contacted them about it and I'm still with them to this day. That was about 2 years ago.

What shady methods were you using? It takes some serious shit to get them this fired up.

It depends on what you did, honestly.

I got deactivated from an advertiser for T&C breach with CJ once, last year. However, they still paid me every penny.

My guess is that if you did something that violated the T&C, but the advertiser still got bona fide sales from it, you'll probably get paid, but if you did something that costs the advertiser money (e.g. click fraud, incentivized traffic, advertising on the same terms that the advertiser is so you're taking sales they would have gotten anyway), you might not.

Good chance you're not going to get paid. But such is CJ. I've had that happen a number of times before I'd learned my lesson. There is plenty of threads in here about CJ drama. Just do a search.

You are fucked. They sent that so that in 3 days they can tell you they are with-holding it all. The advertiser is not going to say only half were bad leads. They usually take it all if they are going to take any. Especially when they are terminating the relationship.

Good luck bro.

What I did was bid on a trademarked brand on adwords and set up a domain that said

XYZ-coupons.com. The advertiser apperantly caught me and terminated my account. I hope that is not grounds for my entire Commision Junction account to be terminated because I am running offers from other advertisers completely legit. I'm certainly not gonna be doing stuff like that anymore.

By the way it was a cost per sale offer.

Honestly if you are that blatant about it what did you expect?

Seriously, at first I felt your pain, since it can happen to most anyone with huge campaigns that one or two terms might just be trademark.

But setting up a domain with the trademark in it... man that is stupid. :eek7:

I mean, WTF were you smoking :stonedsmilie:

Why bid on the trademark name? You know the Advertiser is going to be bidding or checking on that name as well along side you. You basically said "Hey, look at me! I'm fucking with yas!"

Yup Yup. I know. It was dumb. I make no excuse. Ain't doing that again. Learned my lesson. CJ hasn't terminated my account yet so I'll just have to wait and see.

For future reference here are some tips to make it safer (not safe) to bid on branded terms.

1. Don't advertise from 9am-5pm
2. Exclude the City/State where company is located.
3. Filter IP range/Host of company on landing page, redirect to actual company site.
