Ever have a great idea for a project, have the perfect domain name and then find it's taken? I'm sure everyone has, but I fucking hate domain squatters, (mainly because they beat me to it).

One guy was real smooth, I emailed him and asked how much he wanted for his domain that had zero traffic, zero links, zero anything and he says a fucking 4 digit number OR we can do a joint venture.

So I asked what he meant by joint venture and he says, "You do your program on my domain and we'll split all the profits..."

Uh huh.

Fucker.

:error:

You can't even be rude to these fucking leeches because you may need to deal with them again in the future...

bah.

I would do the same thing, if someone emails me for a domain I own they usually will entertain large offers if they didn't include one.

I see nothing wrong with investing in domains... he bought it for 8 bucks so someone like you can buy it for 1000.. same as real estate or anything that will appreciate in value.

I agree with illusion. Most of us here have lots of domains that we're not using. Does that make us cybersquatters, in the eyes of the guy that wants the domain "Yes", in my eyes "No" I just haven't got around to my project yet.

Fact of internet business. Get used to it.

Domains are a funny thing, two days ago my brother found an old domain that he had last year, it was up for auction for $1500 bucks now haha who would have thought.

The thing that is really lame about buying domains just to resell is that people who dont know what they are doing will buy anything, so just about every .com is taken if you want to do a new project. Ive been using .us if i just want to make an affiliate site. Most of those are open and if its an offer only for us visitors it works

True but if you think about it for awhile and try different things you can still find some alright domain names, for instance I just bought torrentscore.com for the upcoming site in my sig, I figured it was easier to brand then other names and it was avalible so I bought it, the downfall is it doesn't currently get fuck all for searches per month so I'll have to really brand it but I've got a marketing plan all laid out.

So if you look you can still come across a few good ones.

I agree with lerchmo 100%. If I come across a good, available domain name, I'm gonna buy it cheap. If someone wants it somewhere down the line, they're gonna have to pay me... and, in the process, I make a nice profit.

It's the nature of the beast. $$$
