I Have Been on 2 Adwords Accounts, Will Google Smack Me?

Hi,

I am going to get cracking and ask a big n00b question.

I first setup and used my Google Adwords account about 4-5 years ago. Did it for a couple of weeks, promoted some crap as an affiliate. This was WAY back in the day when Google wasn't slap-happy. I didn't get any warnings, problems or suspensions from Google during this time.

I haven't used that Adwords account since. I recently did help a couple of friends with an online venture though. They setup a Google account we could all use. I setup an Adwords account there, they funded it with their company credit card, and I setup the campaign for them (just because they really did not how to do it and didn't want to learn).

I am now in a situation where I want to use my own personal Adwords account again, to promote a completely different website (of my own). My question is, because my IP address will have been poking around on 2 Adwords accounts, is this likely to set off an alarm/red-flag and get my ass banned?

I know in the long-run, I am probably going to end up banned one way or another, but I'd like to limit that risk of that happening, so I don't get banned before I even get started!

What do you guys think? Am I over-thinking this? Should I just man-up and get started running my campaign on my own account? Will Google immediately bitch-slap me?

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm almost positive that you can have as many adwords accounts as you want. The only catch is that you can't promote the same thing in multiple accounts. So, I believe if you run a different offer/campaign in separate accounts, you should be fine.

Can anyone else shed some light on this?

Hi Stackcash,

That matches what I was thinking as well. Its not even like I own the other account, but I did do all the work on the Adwords account (except for putting in the cash) so I am willing to bet my IP address has been logged all over it, and wondered if this was give me any grief when it came to running some campaigns of my own.

Appreciate the input though. If anyone has done something similar like this or uses multiple accounts, it would be good to get your take on this, and help shed some light!

It's against their terms to have more than one account.

Can I have multiple AdWords accounts?

No. In order to preserve the quality and diversity of ads running on Google, individuals advertising for themselves or for their own businesses may only have a single AdWords account unless explicitly advised otherwise by Google.
This means that we don't allow advertisers or affiliates to have any of the following:

  • Ads across multiple accounts for the same or similar businesses
  • Ads across multiple accounts triggered by the same or similar keywords
Only client managers (such as third parties or search engine marketers) who use a My Client Center can have multiple AdWords accounts. All associated accounts must be linked to the manager's My Client Center account.
If you're interested in creating a My Client Center so you can manage multiple AdWords accounts for other people, you can sign up for Google Advertising Professionals. This program provides you with free tools and training to help you manage clients successfully.

Guess that answers your question. Why not use the same account in multiple sites? that way you get the money in one check and will not risk getting both the accounts banned. It's hard these day to get an account (my experience) Took me 3 months to get a stupid account. Before getting an account I use chitika which is a big shit compared to adwords.

Hi Waltertech,

Appreciate the input. I had seen that term and condition before. In my case though, I don't own the other Adwords account, it belongs to my friend's business. I just did some work for them on my account.

With reference to those bullet points, it seems as long as I am not advertising the same site, business or using the same keywords, I should be fine (at least that is what I am hoping).

The reason why I don't want to use my friend's adwords account is because I don't necessarily want them to see every campaign I am running etc. It is a risk though, you are right, but is it worth the risk? I guess thats what I am going to have to figure out.
