My wife n' I don't watch many DVD movies.. but the past several times, I put the DVD in, and hit SKIP or MENU and an orange circular NEGATIVE sign shows up preventing me from skipping through the previews... and they take literally 20 to 30 mins plus..

WTF am I doing wrong? I hope I'm just being a moron and there's some way around this.. I can't seriously think that this is how it's meant to be every single god damn time I put in a DVD, that I have to first sit through 20-30 minutes of previews from movies I've already seen.. Perhaps my DVD player is a piece of shit?

jesus.

That's how its supposed to be. You can use software on your computer or sketchy firmware on your DVD player to get around it, but what you're describing isn't the desired operation.

Crazy isn't it? Paid $20 and still get half an hour of fucking previews.

Never happens for me, I can always skip the previews and shit. I'm in Canada though, so maybe a moose will fuck shit up or something if they won't let us skip, IDK.

Get a HTPC and you won't have any problems anymore. Why anyone uses DVD's and DVD players anymore is beyond me. And if for some unknown reason you're like my mother and just have to have the physical disks, at least you're able to fucking skip the shit. If you don't need the physical disks, rip the movie onto the computer in full quality (not a shitty 700mb AVI rip). Use Magic DVD Ripper and rip in full quality MPEG2 format. The files are like 6gb, but it's well worth it to keep 'em full quality.

What, you don't like capitalism, commie??! :D

Avoid commercials in both movies and shows and start downloading the torrents.

Try skipping forward for each one. >>. Not the fast forward button but the skip forward

The only things you cant forward should be the corporation logos and shit. But once those are done you should be able to hit menu w/ ease, and least thats what ive been doing my whole life.

nah, here the in states, some of these dvd's are locked down and they force you to watch the fucking previews.
Best just to rip it to a DVD-R with just the main movie.
But if that's not viable, just skip forward like I mentioned above

This shit happens all the time with kids movies - I'm okay with my kid watching a 30 minute video when it's raining out or whatever but "they" want her to sit through an additional 30 minutes of previews, etc.

Skipping does the job. It's such fucking bullshit though.

Always been able to skip previews, there should be a MAIN MENU/ROOT button on your remote which goes to the DVD ROOT main menu (the movie logo, play, scenes buttons, etc)

Yep. Sometimes there is more than 1 menu button too on your remote. Try all of them (menu, top menu, dvd menu etc depending on the model).

I hate the Blu-ray commercials on Blu-ray movies. If I am seeing the commercial on a Blu-Ray risc, I already have a Blu-ray player and don't need to be convinced again to buy Blu-ray.
