Just an idea I just thought of, I'm sure most of you know about greasemonkey for firefox, and other add-ons for other browsers that allow custom scripts to be ran from your browser to change, adjust or add content on websites to enhance them for the users.

I'm not sure if this has been done, or attempted, and if not, I don't know why.

Anyway, check out userscripts.com, they have plenty of scripts for almost every website. People install them everyday, especially when they have to have them for sites like icefilms.info. Now what I'm thinking is you make up a script that when people install them it actually replaces ads on any site you want, I would mainly target Fb and Google. If it's not possible to do that, it definitely is possible to at least add ads on any site, I would try replacing them so the user doesn't uninstall it, but I guess if you can't replace the ads, then fuck it, add them to areas of sites that it would look feasible so they don't uninstall it. You can make it where the scripts can be fetched from a certain URL, from your site or whatever so you can change up the content from your end and it will still refresh on the users end without them re-installing the script.

Just an idea, not sure if people already doing this or not..I'd do it if I knew javascript well enough, plus if you already have an email list or a user database, this shouldn't be too hard to push.

If you already have a user db for say a website, it can't be hard to tell them they need to install it to run a certain part of the site or a function of it.

Myspace was huge with userscripts from what I remember, I use to install a couple a day cause I thought I was the shit and liked to change things up, plus they're cool and change stupid shit on sites that people don't like, need, or want to see. People are definitely interested in these scripts and would easily install them if you said CUSTOM MYSPACE HOME PAGES!

Plus if a user installed it, that means they would see your ad anywhere you wanted them to anytime you wanted them to, and if they never uninstalled it..guess what..they are your long term customer (: I would probably use adsense instead of affiliate offers since you make money per-click instead of trying to convert them.

Anyway, I'm tired of typing and way to high to think any further. Let me know if you try this and tell me if it works or not, it'll make me happy to know I contributed! Again I don't know if people are already doing this or not and didn't feel like researching if anyone has already talked about it, and don't care to, so don't try to be a baller and say I'm late on this, CUZZZ I DON'T GIVE A FUCK. If people are doing this already, fantastic, now knew people can get in on it.

Enjoy!

Well obviously this wouldn't fly with AdSense.

There are already things out there to customize your Facebook layout, which I believe are monetized through Adware. I haven't bothered installing any of the crap to see whether or not they actually replace the Facebook ads with their own, though I've thought of it.

Are you thinking of bundling this functionality into other scripts, like the icefilms script? People don't like adware...

Eight years ago the Russians were doing this primarily with Google. When a person would download the "trap", not only would the person get what they wanted from the downloaded, but included with the download, would be a IUD that would alter Google Listing results on your computer. So whenever you searched for any term, the first page would be cluttered with sites owned by the Russian.

Least to say, the biggest people in this game made a shit load of money.

There's also people out there selling acai, doesn't mean you can't make a buck off it.

There's plenty of ways to go about it, adware is retarded and should not be used in this method. If you create scripts that move stuff around on facebook/google/myspace/any other site, and create many different layouts so they can choose their own and then insert a simple script that pulls your script that changes or adds all the ads from the script on your server, so you can edit it anytime. Many people would install it just because it changes what they're use to, and people like that. Especially younger people like teenagers, and they love to brag about it to their friends. The more I think about it the easier it sounds. There's a lot of ways to implement this. And I guess adsense would be a bad idea after thinking about it, but maybe there's other PPCs who would be willing to do it, adbrite? I don't know, maybe just affiliate offers? Test test and test some more. You know the drill.

If it turns out you can't replace the ads, change the layout up and ad your own ads in spots that would work well.

And there's stuff out there that rids all ads throughout every website you visit, I'm sure there's a way to replace it.

Least to say, the biggest people in this game made a shit load of money.

This. And I don't think you'd have to be that "big" to get in on this at all, just find your own customers and keep them interested and change things up often (make new layouts so they can change them often, and offer a default layout so they don't get smart and delete it, just change it back with your default layout). I can see a lot of success in this.

I guess they're "gon" sue everyone that created any script that moves shit around, and mozilla for making happen. If you can move stuff around with scripts and use adBlock to block ads, then I'm sure you can insert your own content without penalty, that's why these scripts were made in the first place, the user can do whatever da fuck dey want, if they wanna customize it, so be it. If this was illegal then google/facebook/myspace would already be suing for moving they're content around. When I used these scripts to change my myspace around I believe some had ads, and definitely left they're sites name somewhere on the page linking back to them so they kept coming back for more. I could be wrong, but there has to be way to make this work.

check out the car section on that site, it tempts me, if it wasn't adware I would jump on that shit. When I was 14 I starting making my own myspace layouts in flash makin it look fly as hell, everyone of my friends wanted one, told them to fuck off. Now I know no one sees they're homepage, or the scripts they run on their own browser, but it's the same shit, friends that came over and logged into myspace on my computer loved the scripts I was using and wanted them too, I don't think one friend didn't want me to set it up for them.

More ideas, put facebook like button on a site like that (make it set up like the youtube videos with a screen shot) and people will spread that shit like crazy, they'd want everyone to see how cool they are and they WILL want one too. Then again maybe you wouldn't want to do that so facebook doesn't catch on as quick, but people will still share it anyway.

this similar shit was done by some guy on BHW. There was a thread on WF where that guy said BHW owner stole his shit and crap. This won't down well with G or for that matter with users. someone will eventually pull the plug. Networks wont like this either
