Hello.
We have just done an affiliate program that we wanted to be ideal. We decided that the future is for co-branded sites (an affiliate can make his own site and promote it in search engines), We tried to make it as advanced as possible - possibility to choose one of standard designs or changing completely, add text pages if needed (for search engines, it will allow them to think your site has unique content and better rank it), full real time statistics. We are thinking now about adding XML format so that it would be possible to make a dynamic banners (top in photo contest, or users online now, or new users). What else there is interesting in this sphere. Can we make another interesting feature to the site?

Not so much a site feature, but please offer decent international support & payment options. (Ideally bank transfer, but Paypal is better than waiting for a cheque in fuckin Dollars.)

If it's for the dating site in ya sig then some of the stuff the FriendFinder group offers would be good - especially the geo-targeted ads.

Also, a percentage-based referral program to give us a good incentive to recruit other affiliates.

Don't ban accounts for sending myspace traffic (especially if we're referring to that dating site).

Hell, encourage it. Give a bonus on top of the referral fee for myspace traffic. That will get you all the affiliates you'll ever need. I'll join then too.

Don't go too fancy, just pay the damn affiliates on time and pay well. If the cash is there and you pay on time and support, we'll flock there at no time.

What you need to do is start working with a core group of super affiliates. Add whatever features they want and then take the affiliate program public.

You can add "interesting" features to a site/program for the next 2 years and accomplish nothing of value.

As for ideal in terms of actually recruiting affiliates, you need to at the very least be comparable to the other big affiliate offers in your niche. If you can double the payouts (counting by payout * conversion) of the top program you can recieve a shit load of traffic. Bottom line, payouts are going to beat the shit out of any extravagant features you add to your program.

I really like the idea of having the content provided for me, but I would want the ability to change, modify to my own preferences. As to what I want in a program - I prefer simplicity. I'm not interested in bells and whistles, I want offers that the public wants/needs, generous payouts, and no hassles. Another thing that I had an issue with one of the affiliate programs, you're approved for the program but then you have to get approved for each individual offer. What a waste of my time. If I'm approved then I want to move forward with promoting the offers, not waiting around to get approved by individual merchants. Needless to say, I have since moved on to another program. Good luck with your idea!
